Im thinking that since the manual doesnt say anything about cleaning the pistol before it is shot, there is a reason that they come "pre-lubed" besides to obviously prevent rust and frictional damage from use/misuse right out of the box.

From what I have seen, both my XD and the wife's Glock came with heavy grease. I think this is for inhibiting rust during long storage...like at the shop. Also I wouldn't want to try and clean that after it gets all fouled. I took all of that off and used Rem-oil. Just my $.02.

When I first got my XD45 Tactical. I broke in my XD45 putting 250 rds through it in about in about 1/2 hour. I have had no problems and it is very accurate.

I think my dealer cleaned my gun for me... Seriously.
When i went and put it on lay-away a week ago I told him I was coming back tuesday or wed of this week to pick it up. And I noticed some of the goopy stuff yall are talking about.

anyway I just got home with it and field stripped it to clean her up to shoot afterwhile.... That SOB is clean and oiled. 0 goopy stuff. I oiled it a little further ( dont have any slide grease yet ) but I put a little more oil to make sure she was good to go.

Just finished 450 rounds

Today my tactical shot slicker than a greased pig. Trigger was smoother...the slide felt like it went back to battery smoother.. even the the mag release was behaving. There is definitely a break in period and I am glad that I put so much care into my cleaning. This gun is a real pleasure to shoot.

One of my friends that usually shoots her boyfriends glock 45 something shot two rounds through my tactical holstered the weapon turned around and said that she loved my tactical so much better than the Glock. Two rounds and she was hooked. That is a testament to Springfield XD's quality.

Glad to hear your happy. I got the same results with "normal" cleaning after range trips.

I have heard of the break-in cleaning regimen you described being used on rifles. I would use it on a rifle for sure.

My XD had only a light coat of grease in it when I got it but I cleaned it before the first time I shot it anyways. I broke my gun in with 1000 rounds of WWB over the last month since I got it. I have cleaned it after each visit to the range shooting one to two hundred each time. I am VERY happy with this gun and what a pleasure it is to shoot.
