Price? fishy?

Dropped by a local dealer today on my lunch break so I didnt have a ton of time.
Directly walked to the Springfield section. They had a few .45s out on display 5" tac. etc.. but didnt have a 4" compact out so I asked if they had any and the guy proptly walked out with one.
4" 45acp compact with the 10rd and 13 rnd mags.

$499

Now not having alot of time on my break and already half running late I saw that price as a great deal. Most places you see are in the $500 range.. Most in the $520 but some as high as $550.
So not wanting to loose a good deal I have the man enough money to hold it untill I could come back with the rest of the money and my Purchase permit.

Now sitting here at the house. Is that a good price for what I want or is he getting sneaky on me.
Meaning is the price normal for that gun, or is he trying to get rid of an older model... (Pre-Melonite finish model)??????

Granted I should have asked before but seen a good price and didnt have enough time to think of all the questions running late on my lunch break.

Insight?

I paid $510usd + tax (GA) for mine, last Thursday. 500 is a steal for a new pistol. You're getting the same equipment as me, for less money. You *might* be able to find a better deal after months of waiting - but is saving 10$ worth waiting a month or two for your baby?

Cheers,
David

No .45 ACP XDs were made without Melonite.

Buy it! I was able to get my XD40 for 499.27. That was after taxes and background check. You can find them for that price now, but when I got mine, I couldn't find anyone (within 200 miles of Nashville) that was selling them for less than $525, before taxes and background check.

I'd rather have my XD and not need it, then need it and not have it....

So he just sales alot of them so he has a better price I guess??

He did say they sale alot and he couldnt guarantee him having any if I came back the next day.. reason I had him keep it for me.

Thanks for the info on the Melonite. I was not aware of that. Some idiot lead me to beleve that some 45s were and were not. I knew some XD's were in the pre 06 versions so I bit it hook line and sinker.

XDs are extremely popular guns, but I only found two places in GA that sold xd45c's. Personally, I think they're the best all-around gun, but apparently the xd45 service models sell better - no idea why since the compacts are service models with the addition of a sleeve. If you're paying ~500usd for a new XD45c, you're doing just fine. If you find something better, snap it up!

I just paid $530 before taxes a couple of weeks ago for my 45 compact. I'd say your getting a decent deal.
