Possibly forever.
My ears have been ringing for around 27 years now.

Give it anywhere from 2-3 days to a week or two. If you had damage from before... like I had when I was a teenager then it may never go away. Sorry to tell you the bad news.

Tinnitis
Lots of cures, best one is time, you have bent, brused or broken "Cillia" (Sound Receptor Hairs) in your ear canal. Try Ginger Root capsules they worked for me. There are a few other herbs which you can get at health food stores. Good Luck, NEXT TIME use earplugs and sound reduction headgear.

I don't know how soldiers handle it! Inner hear hunter type decibel reducers would be sweet!

Depends on your ears and how badly they were damaged. Now, think of that ringing in your ears and how bad it sucks.... now imagine hearing that for the rest of your life! I am one of the stupid kids that didn't listen to my parents when they said the stereo was too loud, my hearing loss happened gradually due to the loud music but when I go to the range I wear plugs and muffs to save what little hearing I have left. The thing that really bothers me is the ringing at night when it's supposed to be nice and quiet. I just met a border patrol agent that was out hunting with a friend and his buddy went to take a shot at a deer with the barrel 4 inches from his left ear, instant hearing loss so he has the ringing in his left ear like I described.

I shot a .223 contender silhouette style from the inside of a truck bed, that was in 1999. I still have tinnitus from it. Sorry

Yes it will go away maybe a few hours but could be as long as a few days do youself a favor and wear protection. I have shot at the range a few times with my kevlar on and my dumb ass forgot to put one of my plugs in my ear and lets just say that as soon as one round went off I was seaching for my ear plug. Having a kevlar on makes it alot louder. geez
