Problem XD 45

Hello

Now I have been hearing all the good things about the XD's now is there any problems with these guns that keep coming up? And no I don't mean ya I can't shoot it as much as I like or it eats up all the ammo I put in it etc. I mean if anyone has really had a problem lets hear about it OK? Can it be there is another perfect gun!?
Thanks Dave

I knew that would get someones attention. There is in my opinion no perfect gun. I was just kinda going buy the unadvertised (Glock perfection) because a lot of people refer to the XD as a glock wanta be. I think glock is a real reliable weapon I have a few one with 36000 rds no problems I've just done normal Maint. like Replacing the Recoil assembly spring twice other than that all original It's a glock 30 45cal.. I like the Xd's just trying to get some info on how reliable they have been for people.

I've read on here, various times, that XDs generally seem to be as (or more) reliable than Glocks. That's just "heard" experience though, on an XD forum (just as if you ask Glock fanatics on the glocker's forum, they're going to say Glocks are yadda yadda, etc etc.)

As for some "real" reliability, I've talked with 3 or 4 local gun range owners here in ATL, who say they generally see 1000-3000 rounds per week (depends on which range) through their XD45s, and they've claimed no problems beyond normal wear/tear. They're obviously *less* intensive on maintenance than a normal owner/operator would be, so that (to me) was plenty of affirmation of reliability to determine I should purchase.

I'm sure you'll hear much the same response from others, as well. It's a good pistol.

Cheers,
David

Before XDs came along, I had Glocks, just about every model they make. Then I switched to XDs for ergonomic reasons. Over the last 5yrs I've shot thousands of rounds through XDs (about evenly spread between 9mm & .45, with some .40S&W too) and reliability is not an issue with XDs This forum has the highest percentage of XD users on the planet, and if there was a common design problem or "issue", it would be well known. Run a search on this forum using "Problem", and you'll see what I mean The only common problems I've noticed are all user related (like riding the slide stop, some reloaders having problems with SWC rounds, others no problem with SWCs, difficulty in releasing a full mag, etc., etc).

I will run a search on problem, but in the mean time is it getting easier to get replacement parts too?

I've only personally seen one issue with an XD and that was with the loaded chamber indicator. It was stuck in a raised position. Some crude had gotten jambed into it (don't know how, wasn't my gun). Once the crude was cleaned out it dropped back down into place and problem solved.

I have the same recurring problem with XDs:

They cost money to buy, modify, and shoot. Otherwise they are fine weapons.

I used to carry a Glock and now I carry an XD and the Glock doesn't see the light of day anymore. It rests in the safe replaced and forgotten.

The glock, like the XD, always went bang when I pulled the trigger. Never a problem. The XD, unlike the glock, puts the bullets where I want them. I had very little confidence in the glock, or at least in my abilities with it. I have total confidence in the XD. It is my duty/carry and bedside gun.
