I guess I need to start this story from the beginning, so here goes.....
I picked up my XD45 on 16 Feb. On 23 Feb a friend of mine came over so we could do some work on his car. When we took a break for lunch I showed him my XD and he promptly took it apart. He is not new to guns, but he did not know that the recoil spring wasn't captured. When he pulled it out it and the guide rod took flight. I picked up the recoil spring and rod, put it back together and thought nothing of it. Until tonight.
The day after the above incident I took it out to shoot it and it functioned flawlessly. When I brought it home I cleaned it and reassembled it. The spring did not come out at this time.
Fast forward to tonight. I'm sitting at the coffee table doing some work on my SKS and I drop a piece on the floor. While I'm crawling around looking for it I find a shiny silver spring. It's about 3/4" long, 1/4" in diameter, and has 5 free coils of wire with 3 support coils on each end. It looks brand spankin' new, so my first thought is that it came out of my pistol when BJ took it apart and we didn't notice it. Does this spring sound familiar to anyone? I looked at a parts diagram, but the book that came with my pistol only shows the frame and slide diagrams for the 9mm, .40 and .357.
It may be the firing pin rebound spring.... Did he remove the roll pin and firing pin?

No, he quit after he shot the guide rod and spring across the room. I can't leave him unsupervised for 5 seconds..... I haven't even taken it apart that far yet.
From the slide parts diagram it looks like the rebound spring, but I don't know how it could have come out.
I dunno what spring you're talking about so I'm just going to guess no. :P

Are you saying that the guide rod and guide rod spring seperated on your XD45 when he removed it?? Mine doesnt seperate on my Service model. Is yours a Tactical model?
If he quit his disassembly when the guide rod flew out, it should be the slide return (guide rod spring) that is in question?
