My XD45 eats every brand and type of factory ammo I ever fed it. However with the price of 45 ammo, I just reload especially my match ammo. When I do occasionally buy ammo, it's usually Federal Eagle or CCI Blazer in 230gr RN.

Someone once said... "If you shoot 45 you pretty much have to reload unless you're rich".

I reload also mostly .45acp and .223, and carry Win. Ranger 230gr Felon Repellent.

You know, a excellent point about the .45 ACP is being reiterated by this thread.

I would feel perfectly well armed with ANY of the "carry" ammo everyone has listed. Clearly everyone that has posted has reasons for thinking their choice is better for them. But again, any of them strike me as being just fine for the purpose of self-defense. Of course the sample here is pretty clearly all people who have taken the time to educate themselves on the subject.

I can assure you that, if we were talking about any other caliber, I would not agree to carry pretty much all of the ammunition people - even people who've put time and effort into figuring it out - tell me "works for them".

Of course it'd be nice if I could say my confidence came from the fact that people who carry the .45 ACP are that much more knowledgeable. The truth is, that when 185 to 230 grains of lead, in any configuration that will expand, is properly launched, it will be effective against human targets. Of course experience has proven that even FMC .45 ACP ammo is better than a lot of smaller calibers "defense" ammo. This is pointed out by the fact that, to equal a 9 mm has achieved 25% expansion, a .45 ACP round has to NOT SHRINK.

For practice, CCI Blazer Aluminum Case. For carry, the Speer Gold Dots (230 grain).

I haven't chosen a defensive round yet. For range work I have only shot 230grFMJ just the way god and John Moses intended lol. Will be expanding my experiance to JHP soon as my FMJ stockpile is dwindling. Magtech is the only 45 and 40SW I have ever used, about 1500rnds so far.

A slight aside, I noticed a few people listed +P ammo for their carry choice. I was under the impression that the XD was not +P rated.

Incorrect. XP's can handle +P all day long.

Kaboom...

I don't understand something about what you just said. How can you have all the guns shown in your signature and never have fired a hollow point? That makes no sense to me.

Shoot anything you can get your hands on to practice, but of you want the ultimate in stopping power and leatality, there is not better than these!

When you look at one in person, it will blow your mind how wicked they look, let alone how they perform!

Not true. I called SA and was asking about steel case wolf ammo(not recommended by SA). I then asked about +P and they said perfectly fine in factory +P or +P+.
