I had a crazy thought that it would be cool to throw some 300 grain bullets at metal plates and wood block even if the bullets only fly at 700 fps
Sound like a recipe for squib loads...too much bullet and too little powder.

I shoot 5.0gr of Titegroup and a 200 gr. Montana Gold flat-nose plated bullet (200gr JFP .451" in their catalog) with OAL of 1.125".

https://secure3.mooseweb.com/montana.../pricelist.tpl

The price included shipping. $281/2300 bullets

Shoots like a dream in my XD Tact .45, no problems ever.

I shoot 4.8gr of Titegroup and a 180gr Montana Gold flat-nose plated bullet in my XD Service .40. Easy to not have to change powder.

I'm partial to 185gr LSWC in my loads.

300gr at low velocity...How's your throwing arm?

I know all guns are diff. but I am doubting some of the posted vel. from that data, based on my own chronograph data, they look abit optimistic.

I load 200 gr Berry's plated bullets over Clays powder. It's very clean and accurate. I hate to list a recipe, I might get it wrong. Instead look here. You'll find all of the loads you're likely to need.

I've been loading 6.5gr of accurate #5 with 185gr. Vance Lead swc @ 1.220 oal. Produces excellent accuracy( one ragged hole at 25 yds.) and low recoil.

I'm shooting an XD service( bone stock).

I haven't tried any of my reloads on my XD.....yet. However I have a load I worked up for myself using 6.1 gr of 231 and 185 gr LSWC from either Magnus or Tennessee Valley Bullets. I used to shoot bowling pin matches with my EAA Witness with this load. Very accurate and manageable recoil. I've used this formula for about 20 years.
I suspect the feed ramp on the XD would need a little work to feed SWC loads reliably.
