Wife and kids out of town, I'm home alone.

Not my XD, but at 4am on New Years Day a few years ago, I hear a pounding (and I do mean pounding) on my front door. My Labrador goes nuts, and I retrieve up my j frame 357. More pounding. Lab is at the front door, all but taking the finish off the door. My dog is a gentle sweet overgrown puppy all the time, so I knew I needed to wake up, before I got to the door. More pounding. J frame beside my thigh, invisible to dude at the door, door still closed and locked. I peek out the window beside the door.

me: "WHAT!?!?!?!?!" as mean and loud as I can muster at 4am out of a dead sleep.

dude: "I lost my dog, can I use your phone?"

me: "WHAT?!?!?!?!?"

dude: "I need to use the phone."

At this point, I realize my front porch light, which is motion sensitive, is not on.

me: "I'll get the phone and dial whatever number you say, but you stay out there."

I return with the phone, after dialing 9-1-1, and say:

me: "What number?"

Dude was nowhere to be seen.

The police circled my neighborhood with what seemed like 4 or 5 cars, and called me back for a clothing description. I told them the light on my porch would not come on, also telling them it was motion sensitive, and I had only male, about my height, and slender. The policemen on the phone said that they had someone in the car, and were leaving the area, but would drive through every hour until daylight. I could not sleep, and I did see a car often for the next couple of hours.

The next morning, after no sleed past 4, I went on my porch. The light bulb was rotated about half way out. Foot prints left my front porch, across my yard, across my neighbor's yard, back along his house, over his fence, through his fenced back yard, over his rear fence, and through the adjacent yard to the street behind me.

It was snowing hard that night, and my house was dark. I do not know what dude wanted, but I'm guessing he wanted in the house. My Suburban was in the draveway, and untouched.

My Labrador and my j frame were exactly where I needed them to be that night, doing just what they were supposed to do.

My j frame is now gone, and my XD lives in it's lock box. Next 4am "rude awakening" will include my dog and my XD.

Good job Frank. Not opening the door and making the call for him was excellent.

I had a meth-head try to get in my house a few years ago; even with my Pits barking up a storm. I had the XD with me. All I did was rack the slide from my side of the door and he took off (to the neighbors house- a former marine) My neighbor ended up tackling him until the cops showed up(within a few minutes).
