You dont want to place a round in the chamber by hand and then close the slide. You run a big risk of breaking the extractor. The bullet is getting hung up on the extractor, which is why the slide wont completely close. To get 13+1 you must put 13 rounds in the mag, rack the slide, remove mag and then add another round. Anyways, welcome to the site. xdtalk consists of some of the best group of guys around. Phoenixd45

My slide will be about 1 mm short of closing when one round is loaded by hand into the chamber directly. What am I doing wrong or is it broke. The gun shots great and I love it. I am military and I am accustom to the heavy double action trigger pull of our Beretta's so this is so easy to shot. I am assuming the problem is operator head space and timing so please let me know what's going on.
DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that was the case, operator error. My friends with 1911 style 45's told me to do the same thing, use the magazine and then add one to it again. It works with the Beretta's but this pistol is different and XD is much tighter and better. Your right again, this site is great. A lot of great information. Thank you. Scott
