I'm a skinny guy, ~150 lbs 6' and I carry the XD45 compact right behind my right hip with no trouble and I use a cheapy $14 nylon holster. I just have to watch how tight the shirts are. I'm planning on a nice leather one but I want to try one on first. Should be able to check one out this week.
I have a couple pics, but I'm carrying a 1911 in the pics. I'm pretty it even has a longer grip than the compact.
