Feeding problem with +P ammo in XD45 service.

I bought my XD45 service back when this model was first released, and I have put about 6k-7k rounds through it with 100% reliability... except with +P ammo. A while back I tried some Winchester Ranger 230grain +P ammo and I would get a failure-to-feed about once a mag. The FTF was either the slide ramming into the casing of the round it was trying to feed or missing the next round completely and closing on an empty chamber. I recently tried some Federal HST 230 grain +P ammo with similar results... about halfway through the mag I would get a FTF with the slide rammed into the casing. This happens with +P ammo regardless of which magazine I am using.
In both cases it would seem that the slide "outruns" the magazine in feeding the ammo. It would make sense that this would happen only with +P ammo due to the slide travelling faster. Short of using a heavier spring (which isn't really an option until an aftermarket guide rod is available), is there anything else that might help this situation? Has anybody else had this problem with +P ammo in the .45acp service model? I know the simple answer is just not to use +P ammo, but I would like for my pistol to be able to shoot reliably with this ammo. Thanks for any help in advance.

First things that come to mind:
- Magazine springs are shot, or you need to clean them
- Something is causing short stroking of the action on recoil
- There is something wrong with the dimensions of your ammo

I would assume that if the slide went completely back on recoil, it would pick up a new round and load it, period. It always has with mine, and it has with yours, until now.

I don't have a problem with RA45TP in either my 4" or 5" Compacts.
But until they come out with a heavier captured spring for the 4", why not just use the standard pressure RA45T Ranger ammo? The standard pressure Win Ranger has great ballistics. I am using a heavier spring in the 5" Compact (20#) which works great with standard or +P ammo.

Also, I would order a new captured spring/rod, at 7K rounds, your spring may be a little weak. I normally change out springs after 2-3K.

All of the ideas mentioned are good thoughts for troubleshooting, but what gets me is that I have had this problem with all +P (and ONLY +P ammo) since early on in the pistols life, even with new magazines. Although I had this problem even when the captured spring had a low round count on it, I will probably go ahead and get a replacement sometime soon just for maintenance reasons... the main reason I haven't gotten a new spring already is that the pistol performs flawlessly with all types of hollow-points and FMJs as long as they aren't +P. I may just give the standard winchester rangers a "shot", I was impressed with the ballistic performance of this round when I tested it in +P and was very dissapointed that my gun wanted to jam with them.

When I got my XD 45 ACP I put 200 rounds of hst 230 +p throught it. I had two jams on it. They were about 1 jam per 100 rounds.

Maybe extra-power mag springs would be in order. I'd also recommend appropriate recoil spring weight, but you don't seem to have that option.

Mag Springs

In these guns DON'T feel too strong. Mine feeds BB HB and Cheap Rem HP fine, but he springs in the mags feel a bit weak.

Same thing here... See the thread "Well... No HST for me"

I think I may just end up going with the standard pressure 230g gold dots...

It would be dissappointing if

us XD owners could not consistently use +P ammo. (How do Glock 30s do?)

BUT... this sure does sound like mag springs. Has anyone had trouble with +P, then changed the springs for goos success?

What is a good source for the extra power mag springs?
