Identical? 4" service and 4" compact with X-Tension mag
When you put one of those 13 round mags with the X-Tension on the 4" compact, is it exactly identical to the full size 4" service? It looks identical, but I want to make sure.
I don't think I will ever, ever, carry. I am only looking for a home defense gun. However, I like the idea of having "2 guns in 1". I can imagine there being a time where I might want to stuff the gun in a bathrobe pocket, or some other place where a bigger gun might show. While it isn't a priority, it would be a nice bonus. As long as the deminsions and usability are the same, I would have no problem with the compact if I can use the X-tension mag. If, on the other hand, things aren't the same, I'm not willing to make the sacrifice. Plus, the compact is about $75 more. That would be something I'd need to factor in. I guess the only thing I'd be missing is an extra 13 round mag that would have come with the service (I get a 10 and a 13 with the compact, or 2 13's with the service)? |

Yes, they are exactly the same. What makes you think the full size would be better anyway??
Choosing not to carry, is, well... your choice and your right. You need to shop around if there's a $75 difference. Most shops have one sign for XDs (OK two signs, one for used XDs Get as many mags as you want in as many configurations you want, they do sell them seperately from the firearm....

The reason for the large difference in price, the shop owner said, was due to the fact he was able to find that service model on sale somewhere, and is passing it on to the customer. By looking online at places like Bud's, I see that a price difference between the service and the compact is not uncommon. |

I believe you'll actually like the shorter grip better. I do, even with these meathooks I'm pounding on my keyboard with right now
I meant price sign, but good on your dealer for passing on a good sale price

checked SA's website and all the demensions are the same.
The question then becomes, is having that "2 guns in 1" option worth an extra $75? |

I just purchased (2) 45ACP's (Compact and Tactical) a week ago from a local shop here in Central Florida and the were selling all Bi-Tone models for $529 and all Black models for $489. The type (i.e. Service, Compact, Tactical, etc.) did not change the price. I was looking on-line and the best price I found for the Tactical at the time was $511 (plus shipping and FFL fees).

That's interesting that there is only one price for all models. When looking at Bud's there are tons of different prices even within the same model.
My guy's price was $449 for the service and $525 for the compact. |

No, I was hoping they would but the only 45ACP they had in Bi-Tone was the Service Model (they had just sold their last Bi-Tone Tactical about an hour before I arrived). As far as I am aware the Bi-Tone Compact has not been released yet.
