Is this normal???
I have intentions of getting into reloading, started aquiring stuff last year but I'm not fully geared up yet. I did buy a case tumbler, and started tumbling my XD fired .45 brass. I didn't notice until it was cleaned, but each case has a small dimple in it near the center of the case, slightly towards the mouth. Is this normal?
None of my Glock fired 9mm or XD fired .4oS&W are dimpled.

it may be from where the case contacts the feedramp... as long as its not mangled your Dillon or whatever press you have will resize the dimple out of it...

![]() The dimples seem to vary in severity, and distance from the mouth of the case by roughly .063"+-

Look like it's from them feeding into the chamber. No problem when you resize them it will go away.

Almost 100% positive that it can't be from the tumbler... all the dimples are in the almost exact same place... Try firing a round then checking it straight out of the pistol and see if it happens in the firing cycle...

I get little dents, and they have not been a problem yet, some of my .45ACP brass has been reloaded so much I lost count of how many times.

My XD does that like 100% of the time. I noticed at the range, as I was picking up brass. The vast majority have dents there.
I guessed it was done during extraction, as if it was pre-firing, wouldn't the pressure push it back round? I imagined that as the case was extracted, and hit the ejector, it was spun hard, and that part of the brass hit the back of the ejection port on the way out. No facts or slow motion cameras, just a hypothesis from looking at them.

FHBrumb is correct those dents are caused by the spent case striking the ejection port on the way out of the gun. Can be the result of the cartridges you are using, the recoil spring weight, string ejector spring, or a loose grip on recoil. Not really a problem and is often seen with many different guns and shooters.

A +1 to the above two posts.
Sizing will not remove the dents, but firing will pop those dents right back out Of course, as soon as the round gets fired, it will also get a brand new dent in another spot due to hitting the e-port again No worries
