Xzarian,

The only thing I can tell you is that I shoot the XD45 at 25 yds. With a barrel length of 4.00" and the fact that this is a combat pistol I don't imagine you can get very good constant accuracy beyond that, just my opinion.

I dont know if its true or not, but I have been told that the 45 isnt very accurate past about 50 or 60 feet. I usually shoot at 30 to 35 ft pretty well. Ive never really tried much farther than that.

I have read magazine articles showing 100+ yard hits on a man sized target. Try it if you have the range. I can "lob" in some shots on my 40 in the 50+ yard range.

I have fired the 45 at 50 Yds off hand in Bullseye shooting and hit the Black most of the time and just goofing off with a careful rest could hit a full sized Silluette at 100 Yds however that's with an Accurized Colt 45 Auto with a 4 Lb Trigger, I do know of a National Champ that could hit a Man sized Silluett consistently with the same type Pistol at 150 Yds.
That was with a 5" Barrell
Try it at 50 Yds., Youll be surprised.

So how far do you think the round would travel, shooting level, until it would hit the ground? Is'nt the 25 yard mark where the round first breaks your line of sight?

I personally believe the 45ACP is still quite deadly at 100 yards. Maybe not all that accurate from a shelf stock combat pistol, but if the round hit center mass of a person, I think it would still be effective.

So, is your question how far it's effective, or accurate???

I can now hold about a 4 inch group at 15 yards for a couple of mags. Still recovering from a weak wrist... I hope to get that group at 25 yards soon.

I think he is just trying to analyze the trajectory of a 45 acp round when shot at a plum level barrel angle. At what point does the round begin its decent and at what rate.

It begins it's decent as it leaves the barrel, and drops at 9.8 meters per second square.

first I was wondering how far the round would actaully go. Also the furthest distance you could hope for hitting say a sillotte size target.
