Problem with compact mags?

I spoke with a gun dealer the other day about the XD 45 Compacts. He Said I should steer clear of the compact because of some mag issuse there have been. He said that since the 13 round mags have the extension on them that there is too much stess put on them. He stated that they dont have to support of a full grip, and can cause them to bend, or fail at the extension part. I have read ton of info on the compacts, and have never heard of this problem. Has anyone ever had this happen, or even heard of it?

I've shot at least 1k rounds through my 13rd mags and have had no problems on my compact. I'm sure others have shot even more. First I've heard of it personally.

I own, carry and regularly compete with the XD45 Compact. I have not personally experienced, nor heard of others having any magazine-related failures with this pistol. Any such problem would have its own thread on this forum...

The sleeve that is fitted to the 13-round 45ACP magazine is specifically designed to interlock with the pistol frame for precise magazine alignment and support.

I wouldn't let one story deter you from purchasing this fine pistol.

I can't imagine the 13rd mags failing at the extension area. I've had only one issue with them which I brought up in another thread. Several times in the 4 months I've owned my compact 45, the extension piece has been moved away from the magazine base during carry in a pouch on my left hip and prevented a smooth reload when the time came. In one case, I thought I'd slapped the fresh mag hard enough to properly lock it in place. I released the slide and chambered a round but the magazine dropped out onto the ground after firing that round. I now obsessively check to make sure the extension collar is seated firmly against the mag base when using these mags at the range. I now carry only 10 round compact mags as spares.

The dealer is an idiot... there is no extension on the 13rnd mags, just a sleave which fits over the full sized metal mag to give you a full sized grip.

A dealer who sells XDs would know this. This dealer is obviously anti-XD because he gets a greater mark-up and profit by selling Glocks, Siqs, etc.

Stay far away from this dealer, but that's just opinion

I have two Compacts 4" and 5", great guns, and no problems

There actually is a problem with some of the 13-round mags for the Compact. I have that problem myself. I haven't had an actual failure but I have to really jam the 13-rounder in there hard for it to seat properly. No such problem with the 10-rounder.

I have the same problem with both my service and compact models. When I try to put a full 13 round mag into the pistol i have to push hard to make it go in. If I take one round out though they go in easy. Now obviously this defeats the purpose of a 13 round magazine, but it brings up a question in my mind as to whether that is a problem with the spring in the magazine or what?
