stiff mag release
I bought my first xd this weekend- a very gently used 4" xd-45. There's one minor problem-it takes a lot of muscle to operate the mag release with the slide closed. Its a tad easier to operate with the slide locked open, but it still takes more effort than any pistol I've ever owned.
Is this normal or not? I'll probably just live with it for now and see if it loosens up with some use. Any ideas? |

If you are referring to a full mag, then this is normal.

Welcome.
When I ran a search on "stiff mag release" I got about 170 results in 5 pages; some of those will surely fit the question you are asking.

When i got mine i noticed it was stiff. I just kept putting the mag in and then releasing it. That really helped me get used to it, its not an issue anymore. Just give yourself some time with the gun.

Are you doing this w/ full mag?
If you are experiencing this with a full magazine then that is normal. To make the release easier, simply push upwards on the mag and this will relieve the pressure and allow you to drop even a full magazine easily. Good luck.
