XD Jamming Range Report

Earlier this week I posted my XD 45 Compact had been jamming twice every 150 or so rounds. I suspected it may be the 13 round mag. So today I used the 10 round mag and put 150 rounds of the same ammo it jammed with earlier through the gun. Blazer Brass 230g hardball and also threw in 40 rounds of Hornaday hollowpoint. It shot flawlessly. After Christmas I plan on contacting Springfield and see if they will swap out mags. The 10 rounder clicks right in but the 13 rounder has to be pushed in much harder to lock. Still very happy with my XD.

Do you mean swap the 13rd mags for new 13rd mags or for 10rd mags? I wouldn't be willing to use only the 10's--if there is some problem with your gun that makes it only work with them then Springfield should fix it

painman,

I have a SA 13 rnd mag that causes stove-piping and double feeds all the time. I found that the feed lips are just a hair wider that they should be. As far as being hard to get to engage, I can't help ya there. Just make sure that when you are inserting them, do it with some authority. it could be that the spacer is jacked up and not allowing things to engage properly.

The 13 round mag should be replaced with another 13 round mag that functions properly.

Clean the mag and make sure the follower isn't sticking and there's no "junk" in there.

Insert an empty mag with the slide locked back and look inside to see if the mag is hitting the ejector.

Only things I can think of.

I have had multiple problems with the 13rd mags. I am now on my second set of four and three of these have stopped dropping free and one of the three frequently fails to feed at round number nine.

I have just purchased a SA Operator 1911 to replace the XD-45 as my duty gun. The XD-45 will be going back to SA for an overhaul and new mags once I have the 1911 up and running (holster, mag pouch, extra mags and qualification shoot) for duty.

I have been carrying the XD-45 on duty for less than one year and the mags have caused me too many problems to keep carrying it.

I had the same issue... See the thread in this section called "well, no HST for me"

It was caused by the sliding block on the under side of the slide being too rough from the factory, and pushing the top round in the mag back too hard, and causing a bulge in the back of where the top round sits in the mag. It will eventually smooth out from friction of sliding against the top round in the mag, but I went ahead and polished the shot peened finish off of it with 600 grit wet/dry, then finished it up with my Dremel, with a felt wheel, and some light rubbing compound... SA said this would NOT void my warranty.

I called SA about it, and they gave me an RMA number and i sent the mags in to them, for them to replace free of charge.

I did shoot 220 rounds through it yesterday, and the mags that I kept and had bent back in, did not bulge back out at all...

This thread seems to be all over the place...

IF IT IS the 13 round mags, I suspect it COULD be the spacers. One of my 13 round mags did not insert very easily into my new compact. I then filed down the bottom of the spacer, and it fit more easily. I suspect that this woulld ALSO keep the mag lower in the magwell, and subject the weapon to failurs to feed because the rounds would hit the ramp TOO LOW.

I'm not well versed in pistol nomenclature so please bear with me. I measured from the top front of both my 10 and 13 round mags to the top of the hole which secures the mag into the pistol. The distance between the two is different with the 13 round mag is 1/16th inch greater. The 10 round mag secures with normal effort but the 13 round mag must really be forced. I think this may be why the mag is jamming every 150 or so rounds. Does this measurement match up on everyone elses mags?

You may have some "out of spec" 13

round mags. Call SA - they should replace.

But try this also - take off the adaptor, and see if the mag seats easily.
