DIY barrel polishing?
I've read that a few members here have done their own polishing job. WHat is involved in doing this yourself?

Maybe this will work:

I use a high speed bench grinder that I got from a friend. I'm not sure how much they cost new but the higher the RPMS the better.
I got some buffing wheels similar to these from Lowes. I also got the compound sticks from Lowes too. http://www.hobbytool.com/index.asp?P...PROD&ProdID=60 Find some paint remover or something that will take the finish off the barrel and go over it with the finest compound you can find. It may take a while but it's worth it. Just don't glob a lot of compound on the wheel and don't push the barrel against the wheel. Also, have some Gojo ready because that compound is a pain to get off your hands! You can Google metal polishing and I'm sure you can find a lot more information. Oh, once you polish something you'll probably get the urge to polish all kinds of stuff. You would not believe the things that I've put on the buffing wheel. haha Last edited by GimmieBoost; 12-21-2007 at 07:57 AM. |
