XD 45 and Feeding...
Just got mine, and don't expect to shoot until this weekend at the earliest. Now I'm getting the angst on all these comments on feeding issues with this and that round. The ramp and throat look like a superb design, and the feed ANGLE looks optimal. I don't understand all the issues. Maybe they are because of these WEAK mag springs which come in the OEM mags?

The feeding issues are way overblown. I have 3 XD45s and an XD9 Tac and have never had a single miss-feed with any of them (several 1000 rnds in total).
Most of these problems are folks trying different hollow point personal defense rounds. It's not surprising to find miss-feeds with some of these in any gun, but you just find a bullet design that works in your gun and stick with it. Miss-feeds with reloaded ammo is a totally different animal and is expected until you find the correct OAL and bullet weight/design which feeds reliably with your reloads. Very few of the miss-feeds are due to weak mag springs, unless SA has had a recent batch of bad springs, which I kind of doubt. Just start with FMJ ammo, Blazer Brass, WWB, or whatever until you feel comfortable with the gun itself.... and enjoy

My 45Tac feeds every JHP, FMJ & lead profile I have tried (About 12 diff.). It's about 75% w/ 200grLSWC so I do not use them in the XD, but everything else, 100%.

If you read the threads here for long, i think you will see more reports of X thousand rounds, not a single problem, than you will see of any issues.
The people who have issues are more likely to post a thread for help sorting it out. The ones who have none are more likely to not even mention anything. I am one of the ones with no problems. |

I've had 3FTF in 370 rounds (one of which resulted in the destruction of a round (hence the number 369 in my sig). All three were traced to my over-lubrication of the spring mechanism, and the chamber closing on a half-fed nose-up round. The issue fully resolved 50 rounds into firing. The last 150 rounds that day shot flawlessly. Ironically it was the FMJ rounds that stuck, I started with 20 rounds of Hydra-Shok (I always start by shooting my defensive rounds due to the fact that they get re-chambered about once a week, and over time this can lead to a kB)

I have never had a feed issue with anything but LSWC in any XD, they are difficult to feed in any gun and many brands just will not load them. I do load them for my PT1911 which has no problems with them but my SIG 220 won't load them either.

I have only ever shot WWB and Blazer Brass thru my xd45, and have not had a single problem.

I haven't found a hollowpoint that my gun won't choke on. So far it looks like it's a hardball gun.

If yours won't feed that, or just plain Winchester 230gr JHP, then it needs a trip to the gunsmith or SA.

The WW White Box JHPs have a pretty round nose & the feed ramp stops them cold.
