One thing came to mind

I went to my nearest gunsmith with my new True Glo sights. We tried to take off the stock sights... while I waitied... and he said... "wow" these are really on there??? He fiddled aroung for a little bit with the small sight press and then, told me to come back in a few days. Any suggestions I can call into him... so he dosnt screw up my slide??? These are the first XD sights and he said he need to research ot a little? Any suggestions, I will pass on to him? What side do they come out? Thanks,

ive had 3 different xds with aftermarket sights. one set had to be milled (drilled) out, another was able to be pused out (a piece of a 2x4 and a brass hammer), and the other was done by a smith so i have no clue how.

When I bought my XD, the guy who put mine one kind of screwed up a bit:

I wasn't happy about it, but what can you do???

This is just my opinion, but with the XD having such a widespread reputation among the gun crowd for extremely tight front sights, if I heard a 'smith express surprise at how tight they were it'd be a clue to me that he maybe had never worked on one before. This is not to say that your guy is a bad 'smith and will bugger up your slide, but there are a couple vendors known here on the forum who specialize in XD mods (Springer Precision and Canyon Creek) and can get 'er dun with a minimum of hassle and collateral damage. Just a heads-up if you need work done in the future.

And welcome to the forum, buzzfuzz.

This would have been nice to know when I bought my XD and had the guy I bought it from do the sights. I had no idea, it was my first semi auto and the first time I've ever had sights changed...

Yeah, I've heard enough horror stories about varying levels of slide butchery during my time here that maybe a sticky should be made about changing sights.

Definitely should be a sticky. Use my picture above as a warning to what some slide butchering looks like.

Nothing compared to what I did to my black XD-9SC. All manner of drift, punch and hammer produced a huge mess to my "knock about gun". I bit the bullet and paid beaucoup $$$ for the MGW XD sight installer. It's built like a tank but they specifically note that it is ONLY for installing aftermarket sights not removing the stock sights, THAT'S how tough the OEM stuff is to get off. This could likely be fixxed with a whole 30 seconds worth of adjusting the CNC machine in Croatia, dont know why they havent already

tight front sights? The gun store got my front one on like butter using their tool; then they broke the tool on my rear sights. I have the #s of some local gunsmiths to try for the rear install. Don't wanna ship it off if I don't have to.

Thumbs up Thanks To ALL From Buzz

Great Info. Thanks tto you guys, I quickly called the Smthy today. I gave him a heads up that they are notorious for being super tight. He said... given that... he would rather, grind the stock sight to split at very low torque.... then pop the new ones in. He says he wouod rather do that than messw up the slide or anything... and likely the stock would be messed up anyway. All in all I think that was a smart plan. I wil show them when he returns the XD to me. Buy the way... thats to all. I was injured a couple of years ago... very, very severly. I am paralized and in a chair for life. I have great upper body mobility and only waist down paralized. This allows me to shoot and continue to enjoy pistols and I want to compete and grow. Not much I can do any more, but shooting is one thing I can do.. , and I must say... Im not bad... even though I am in a chair. Thanks, Again. Any suggestions... let me know. Buzz.
