Well, no HST for me!
Well, I ordered a bunch of HST to run through my XD45C, to make sure it worked well, before trusting it, and I'm glad I did...
I had (3) misfeeds in 140 rds. (1) of them nosed down, and (2) nosed up and got the hollowpoint stuck on the top side of the chamber opening. They were all seperated, so it's not like it got dirty and started to mis-function. one was on the second magazine, one was around 75 rds, and one was around 110 rds. The pistol was cleaned before this, and I fired 100rds of ball through it after I finished with the HST, with no issues of any kind, so it's not like weapon was having problems, in general. They were all able to be cleared (actually, still chambered that round) with slap-rack-bang drills, but (3) misfeeds in 140 rds is a bit much for me... In trying to figure out why it loaded 80 of the TAP's just fine, but not the HST, I did notice that the HST does have a very large opening for the HP, compared to the TAP, so that may be it. I do know that at least (2) of them were from different magazines, as at least one of them was from a shorty, and the other was from a 13 rd with the factory X-tension. Still have not had a failure in close to 500 rds with ball ammo. I may just end up rolling with the EFMJ, for reliability reasons, and dealing with having slightly less overall expanded diameter. Hell, you don't even NEED hollowpoints with .45 ammo, anyway... I was already going to give 100 rds of the HST to my younger brother for his G30 for Christmas, but I guess I'll just give him the extra 60 rds I have left for me, too... I know his G30 will feed ANYTHING with the unsupported chamber (though blocky, and not horribly accurate, plus I can't get my pinky on it) Well, that was a $75 lesson... Mike Edited to add: These were the 230 gr. version. Last edited by bartonmd; 12-16-2007 at 09:07 AM. |

+1 HST will not feed reliably for me (in several calibers), the mouth of the hollow point is TOO wide.

I sure wish there would have been this thread... I ordered 300rds of the stuff because I thought nobody had had any issues with it... Good thing I had already decided to give 100rds to my younger brother for his .45 G30, or it would have been a $137.00 lesson instead of a $75 lesson...

Never had a problem with Speer GoldDots in 200 gr. +P or 230 gr.

I have owned a few different weapons that shot one particular brand/type of ammo better than others. The trick is finding the defense round which shoots best.
You can usually figure it out with a few 20 round boxes of various ammo. Once you find out, that weapon can be married to those rounds. One 22 LR pistol absoultely shot cheap Phillipine manufacture dime store ammo better than any of the premium stuff. I bought all they had once I figured it out. I still have boxes of those rounds in a 50 cal ammo can, after 30 years. I recently bought a XD45C in Dark Earth. I'm loving it. Before I find out what ammo it will digest best, I plan to run about 500 rounds of ball ammo through it first. I'm about half way. Shooting new 45 ammo is expensive! --Plex

I don't quite get it
In looking at the feed angle and such it looks pretty STRAIGHT from the angle of the round and its alignment into the chamber - these guns ought to feed anything. I guess Glock beats us here? It can feed the WIDE mouth hollow points and we can't? (Not a rant - really asking a question).
