Glock 30 owner here... considering XD45 Compact... talk to me!
Those of you who have experience with both the G30 and the XD45 Compact: I would appreciate your thoughts.
I have a G30 which I like very much, in spite of the bulky grip. It's a great gun for sure, proven reliability & durability, accurate, nice trigger (with 3.5# connector & smooth-faced trigger shoe), but I just don't quite "love" the fit in the hand. I recently handled an XD45 Compact which felt really good in my hand. Comes with both 10-round and 13-round mags. Great! THe XD45 Compact is about 1/2" longer than the G30, about 1/4" taller, and weighs about 5 ounces more than the G30. Fairly close in size and weight to the G30, close enough for me to be comparable choices for CCW. So they both are suitable for CCW, except that the XD45 has a more contoured, shaped grip than the G30 has. I'm considering getting the XD45 Compact and wanted to hear other's thoughts on the comparison between the G30 and the XD45 Compact. I already know that the G30 has a lower bore-axis (wondering how much of a difference that really makes in application.) I know that the XD45 has a 4" barrel compared to the 3.8" barrel on the G30 (I like the longer barrel to keep velocity decent). And I know that Glock parts & accessories and after-market support is vast compared to XD (but I may not feel much, if any, need to modify the XD45 Compact.). So that may not be a significant aspect. I know that both are excellent, proven guns, overall, so this need not be a bash-Glock or bash-XD thread, just a calm, objective discussion would be perfect. Perhaps, with the previously mentioned elements in mind, is just comes down to which one feels better in the hand and shoots more comfortably and there is no need for this discussion at all.... I don't really know for sure. I only own the G30 at this point, so opinions from XD45 Compact owners would be useful. What haven't I thought of and what are your thoughts about the two guns? Thanks very much, in advance.

Glock 30 owner here... considering XD45 Compact... talk to me!
I have three XD's, An XD-9 Service, XD-40 Tactical, and XD-45 Tactical. I enjoy all three for different types of shooting. I also have a Glock 20 (10MM). If I were to have a compact, I would choose the XD . The large frame Glocks are large for me , even though I am 6'2" and 225 #.

"Compact" in the XD refers to the mag/grip configuration. "Compact" is the XD with the 10 rd / 13 rd interchangeable mag options.
XD comes in three "Compact" versions: "Tactical" 5" bbl. "Service" 4" bbl. And the "Sub Compact" -- which I don't know much about. It sounds like you're looking at the "Sub-Compact" -- which is double stack, and I'm not sure about the capacity. The grip on the XD is identical to the 1911 and steeper than the Glock. XD has a fully-supported feed ramp and chamber -- which the Glock does not. Glock has an overbored breech and a deeply cut feed ramp, which provides for sure feeding, but doesn't support the case during firing. Conventional rifling in the XD. Three interlock safeties in the XD. Glock has two. The grip safety on the XD provides a measure of safety when holstering to prevent AD's from accidental catching of the trigger interlock safeties. Glock striker is "semi-cocked" in the loaded breech position and requires something akin to a double-action trigger function to bring it to full cock. XD trigger is single action and fully cocked in the loaded breech position. XD provides a visual/tactile cocked and loaded breech indicator. XD trigger is steel. Glock is plastic. XD slide/frame lugs are milled steel and robust. Glock uses small metal insets in the frame. Glock builds reliable stuff. I have a Glock field knife and a Glock GTL 21 laser sight for my Tactical XD. I owned a Glock 22, and sold it shortly after I purchased it. I just don't care for them, but it's a personal taste thing. I wanted a full-size, 45 cal, high-capacity handgun with a laser sight for field use and vehicle carry. Glock would work, but I prefer the XD.

TacBlack... thanks for the comments. I am looking at the XD45-Compact, which sounds like it would be a "Service" with a 4" barrel. I think XD-45's only come in full size and Compact. The full size has a grip which was too long for my liking and the shorter grip on the XD45 Compact felt just right. 10-rounds with standard mag and 13-rounds with the sleeved-extended mag which also comes with the gun.

From what I gather, it really is a "which one do you like better?" argument... I have an XD45 Compact, 4", and my brother has a G30... I've shot both, and find the XD45C a better shooter FOR ME... YMMV.

I actually own both. Both of them are fine handguns. I have big hands (6' 4", 220) so grip size isn't that big of an issue, but the XD feels better. I've only had the XD for a week now, but with 400 rnds through it, I haven't had a glitch. This may sound funny, and I know that the XD is slightly larger, but I feel that it conceals much easier than the Glock 30. It may be my imagination, but my arm doesn't seem to brush it as much when walking with it in my wasteband. There is a neat little clip that I'm getting for my Glock that inserts into the frame and negates the need for a holster. I don't always use a holster so I feel that the clip will be the way to go on the Glock. The XD on the other hand rides much better in my wasteband without a holster. I doubt that I will be able to get one of those for an XD anytime soon (if anyone knows differently, please let me know). I hope this has been informative. I would get one anyhow, just because its a neat gun.

For CCW the XD45 Compact won. Just a few reasons...
Comfort. The fingered grip would not line up for me, XD has none but still fit me better. And yes the grip angle suit me better. Safety. I have conditioned my self to reholster without pressing the grip saftey, less chance of things going wrong. Still, not a bad idea to have both.

G30 Has another advantage
Not to say the XD is out of the running (have both) but the G30 is switchable and reliable to 10mm with a KKM Precission 45-10 Barrel and a (not always needed) stronger recoil rod (and ofcourse any G21 or G29 10mm magazine).

i had the EXACT dilemma!!! i didnt own one but had both put on hold and felt, and FIRED, both. i really wanted to leave and take the G30 with me....BUT, the xd was just too damn comfortable and the size between the two pistols was minimal, yet the grip was substantial-in xd's favor. they are both great firearms but the xd just won it over for me
And to tell ya the truth i was so set on buying the G30 i bought grips for it,extensions, and a DVD. lol ended up bringing the xd home and lost all my money on the G30 accessories, lol fun times

I am a former G30 owner...
And my only regret is that I did not wait until the XD45 Compact came out. I own an XD45 Service.
