Slide Lock issues with XD45C
Well, got to the range on Saturday, and put ~285 rds though the new XD45C... The wife did ~200 of those, and we only had (3) issues... She had 2, and I had 1. No feed errors, no smoke-stacks, no misfires, but (3) times, between 150 and 250 rds, the slide locked back halfway through a magazine. I just hit the slide lock release, and it fed the next round and everything was fine for the rest of the mag.
After the (2) relays of M1 Garand match I shot this morning (in the rain/mist), dad and I put another ~80 rounds through it in the rain with no issues. Has anybody had issues like this? Is this something that is due to only having 150 rounds through it? Thanks, Mike |

Based on everything I've seen on this forum and having that same thing happen to me yesterday with my new .40 SC, it's your grip. Your thumb is hitting the slide lock and holding the slide open. I never would have believed it could happen with the way I grip my guns, but I tried a different grip and after 5 of 10 rounds the slide locked back.
I'm not ruling out that you could have a mechanical issue, but I've heard this before and that has always been the consensus. Just make sure your grip isn't interfering with the slide lock, and it may not be real obvious, but it DOES happen.

Ah, OK...That makes much more sense than some kind of mechanical failure that would LIFT the lever, AGAINST its spring, one time per hundred rounds, and everything would be just fine otherwise... I honestly had not thought about it like that... Those levers on my S&W 639, and my H&K USP Compact are not nearly as easy to hit in firing position, so it never crossed my mind...
Thanks! Mike |
