use of extender mags for backup..?

Recently while practicing reloading by drawing a full size mag with a plastic extender sleeve from a belt mag pouch, I experienced a hitch in my reloading git-a-long. The sleeve had moved away from the base and upon trying to insert it in the magazine well it bound against the well opening preventing quick, smooth reloading. I wondered if anybody else has experienced this. The sleeves are actually pretty tight on the magazine body and seem mostly to stay put so I presume I did something that caused the the sleeve to move...still under stress it would be disappointing to have a magazine reload cost precious seconds.

Are you referring to the factory extended magazine or an aftermarket?

I was thinking the same thing while shooting this weekend... I was also thinking about pinching my finger on the grip extension and therefore, not loading the mag fully...

Do we know if it would hurt to use the full length mags without the grip extension? I mean, are the mag extensions there to stop the mag from getting bunged up by going up too far, or are they just for looks/feel, and there is some other "real" stop, so the mag doesn't get screwed up?

Sorry for the semi-hijack...

Thanks,
Mike

If you don't use those and reload with the slide locked back it is possible to damage the ejector. If the slide is locked back that is what stops mags with no extenders from going all the way though.

......so if you slap the magazine base hard enough when loading a 13 round mag in a compact pistol you could bend(?), break(?) the ejector? I have used 13rd mags in the compact when target shooting with no ejector issues but no stress either so i wasn't banging the mags into the pistol. Maybe I'll just carry a 10rd compact mag as a spare then. Thanks for the insight jeepinbanditrider.

If you have the x-tender on there I don't think you have to worry about breaking the ejector.

I've often wondered about pinching a finger as well. I guess I need to shoot my SC in a match and see how those reloads go under pressure!
