Fobus SP11 standard or SP11B compact
I'm considering a Fobus paddle holster for my XD .45 compact 4". I'm not looking for the opinion to talk me into another brand, but I'm asking if you have the shorter SP11B holster and why you prefer it over the standard SP11? Any advantages or dis-advantages? Thanks!

They make fine holsters for range work, Or if you are carrying around your property, If you are thinking that you will conceal you XD with these holster you are gonna find out that they don't work so well. The SP11 is the one I own, I prefer it over the SP11B since I don't want the muzzle to be exposed. which if worn while driving or other activities can cause premature wear and tear on the muzzle end. They both wear almost the exact same way. Check your local store they probably have both and will let you try them out. If not find a new dealer. That being said. You cannot wear a holster for 10 minutes around a store and know how its going to wear. You wont know if it wears right till you wear it in a car, sitting in a chair, walking a decent distance, etc... SO to be so closed to other holsters that other wear with success and have opinions of, people that have used these holsters for weeks and month's is absurd. It's one reason I have a drawer full of holsters for all makes a models of guns that I own. There is a reason a holster cost $20 dollars while others cost $100 and up....Learn from others mistakes..... the SP11BH is belt holster hence the BH the SP11RB is the Roto belt holster the SP11RP is the roto paddle holster The SP11T is a thumb break

The reason I made the request, "I'm not looking for the opinion to talk me into another brand, but I'm asking if you have the shorter SP11B holster and why you prefer it over the standard SP11?" is that I searched multiple discussions about types of paddle holsters and just did not feel the need to have you re-hash what has already been said.
Thanks for your comments, good point about the barrel being exposed to more wear on the compact version. |

My theory is to always get the longer because a shorter gun will fit just as well but not the other way around.

I like the longer SP11 better. Don't have one but tried a shooting bud's when he lent me his XD45 (in order to decide if I liked shooting the XD45 enough to buy it - I did!)
I liked his better than the shorter length Fobus paddle I got as an additional freebie with the XD45. I also like their roto-paddle style because it allows you to adjust the angle of the holster and use other attachments and have one for a Makarov I own. All said and done I got a Blackhawk SERPA for my XD45 because of info on this forum and am not looking back. I have terrific retention and a quicker draw with that system.

Fobus has some inexpensive holsters, But like I said don't buy it thinking you are gonna conceal the XD with it, the distance from my body to the outside of the gun is 4 1/2 inches.

I got the SP11 recently ($15 local buy), and I think it conceals pretty well. I'm about 5-10 and 170lbs, and can wear it with a flannel shirt on.
The one complaint I have is that there's something that digs into me, like a sharp edge, up near the top. I'm sure when I can pinpoint it, a piece of sandpaper will help it out. Anybody got pics of the SC in the SP11B? Anybody ever took an SP11 and cut it to the length of the SC? That way it's not 1" too long, or exposing the barrel. |

I agree with xd4life the Fobus Paddle holster is a fair range holster but the paddle attachment places the holster too far away from the body to be a good concealment holster. I have the rotating paddle and I can't even conceal it under a sport coat. In fairness to Fobus I also have a Sidearmor, and a G-Code that don't conceal any better. I believe the only OWB kydex holster that will conceal very well is some form of pancake holster that will pull the holster in. The Raven Concealment Systems Phantom holster with the pancake attachment looks interesting but I don't have any experience with it. There is a very good review here:
