Questions about XD 45's and accuracy

I almost bought an XD45 a few months ago, had one on order, but finally ended up getting a 1911. I'm still interested in getting an XD eventually though, when I get the cash.

I'm curious about the accuracy that those of you who own XD's have been able to get from them. Specifically:

- What kind of consistent 5-shot groupings can you get from them at 25 yards?

- How accurate is your XD compared to say a good namebrand 1911 that you own?

- How tightly is your XD's slide fitted to the frame, from the factory? Is there any looseness or rattling if you shake vigorously from side to side when gun is empty?

XD45 compact excellent

I just bought my first XD last week, a .45 compact, and I have to say it is fantastic. Two to three inch groups (shooting offhand, two handed) at 30 feet out of the box. I haven't shot it off a rest yet, but I'm sure it will be better yet, as I'm not Jeff Cooper. It hits to point of aim as opposed to a six o'clock hold. This is as good as I can do with my Colt Gold Cup Trophy 1911. The overall fit and finish is excellent with a tight slide, as well as barrel to slide fit. It's my first polymer-framed gun, and for $499 I give it five stars.

I get 2" groups at 25 yards from a bench with reloads.
It's a combat pistol, not a target gun.

Sheesh--if you guys are getting 2" groups at 25 yards, that sure sounds ALMOST like a target gun to me. Great shooting! I'd like to buy one of these tomorrow. Just gotta talk my best half into it!

You can get good groups with a stock pistol and if you want to improve the stock gun get yourself a target barrel and some action/trigger enhancements. Springfield can install an upgrade or the guys at Springer can as well. For what I do (CCW and IDPA) my stock 45c pistol is more accurate than I am.

I have what I think is an amazingly accurate XD45 Service Model. From a rest of sandbags it will shoot a near 1 hole group at 12.5 yds. I don't usually shoot for accuracy at 25 yds, but rather 12.5 yds and double the result. On this target I thought one of my shots missed completely, but there's three there. And I'm no expert. I just relaxed and took my time and slowly squeezed the trigger.

I'm enclosing a shot of one of my targets. These were handloads- nothing special. Loaded on a Dillon 550B. 200gr wadcutters. Cant remember the powder charge but it was Bullseye powder. This was a three shot group at 12.5 yds. I did this consistently that day. My XD45 is BONE STOCK.

I don't know if these shots are typical, but I'd love to see what it can do in a Ransom Rest. I was shooting my custom 1991 A1 Commander too, but I could not get these groups with it (same ammo). With the Colt the groups were a tad larger, but still good. Just not as good as the XD45.

These are some GREAT, GREAT shooting results. Far better than what I would have expected. If I could get anything near this, anything near 2", I would be more than happy with an XD.

My XD Tactical shoots great after I replaced the barrel.
The factory barrel group would open up as it warmed up.
2" at 25 yards??? well I'll take that info with a grain of salt especially with the factory barrel fit.
You might get lucky, but it's not what I have seen.
I've seen good factory fit barrels shoot closer to 3" at 25 yards from a bench.

I have high end 1911's and they group exellent at 25 yards 2 hand hold, indoor range.

Here is a photo of my XD Tac at 25 yards two hand hold with the gunsmith fit Pistol Gear barrel I fit myself. 50 rounds.
Springer precision sear and trigger bar kit.
I'm sure it will group tighter from a bench.

I'm impresed with these XD's and it's tough for me to say because I'm a 1911 man.
