The Ultimate Sin - S&W M&P45 Purchase
I initially came to this board looking for advice on the XD9 Tactical model in comparison to the Glock 34. After some more thought, I decided I wanted to get a high-cap .45 for home defense use (instead of using my 1911). So then my searches were focused on the XD45 and specifically the Tactical model.
It came down to looking at the XD45 Tactical and S&W M&P45 at the local gunstore. Both felt very nice in the hand, but the $50 rebate and 2 free mag offer won me over in favor of the M&P. I hit the range today, and was very happy in my purchase. So, while you lost somebody to the M&P crowd, I still believe the XD line is a good one. And at least I didn't pick up a Glock!! Any others heavily look into the M&P45 in their searches? What specifically caused you to pick the XD instead? (Hey, there's always more room in the safe, right?). |

There are quite a few others here that own or have seriously looked at M&P pistols, not just the .45's. I have not, but I know many people here have. Don't worry, we won't hold it against ya buddy, as long as you have a pistol that fits you well and functions well, we're happy for ya.

I shot a S&W MP, but I did not like it.
It was a 40 cal and the kick wasn't so bad, it was more that the trigger was like DAO. So it was a heck of a time getting the trigger back and then a heck of a time keeping on site while pulling it. Any one else get this experience also? Maybe they make them in DA/SA or SA and they are alot better? Just my thoughts. |

Nothing wrong with them...I've got them both. Both are excellent pistols IMHO.

I don't like Double Action weapons, never have. Too long of trigger pull on the first shot, even if it's DA/SA it still messes with me. XD trigger or 1911 SA is the only way to go, imo

The M&P is as much double action as the Glock is. After a trigger job is done it is a XD trigger without all the reset and over travel and you can do the job yourself. Mine breaks clean at 4lbs and has very little reset.

I also have both. In fact I thought enough initially of the M & P that I had a fellow by the name of Dan Burwell do a trigger job and stipple the front strap. The trigger job is way better than stock, but not the equal of the XD because you can't do much with eliminating some of the takeup. I got the one with the ambi safeties; another feature I really like. It feels good in the hand, but is enough different from the XD to make me prefer the XD. I also like the 13 round mags over the 10 round M & Ps. All in all I keep going back to the XD, so the M & P will be sold. Someone will get a great deal.
Make no mistake though, the M & P is one fine pistol, just not for me. |

I shot a M&P 9mm the other day..I liked it .. The only thing I didnt like was no ambi safety..I know that you can change sides.I did that on my Five SEVEN but I got spoiled with my Hk's and XD's....I also know that S&W turned down the Croations as they came to them before they approched Springfield Armory. Our Xd's might of be called M&P's from Croatia...
