Just picked up a new 4" xd45acp yesterday and went to the range this morning.
The XD shoots great but it seems to be shooting about 3" low and 4" left at about 25 feet. Any suggestions on sights. I can obviously compensate at the range but in a critical situation I would probably miss. Not a good situation. Thanks! |

Have someone else who's an experienced shooter try it. Two expreienced shooters are even better. See if it's the gun or the shooter. If you have access to a laser bore-sighter, stick it in and check if the sights are low or not.

Nothing personal, but it's probably you. Lots of people have posted this same thing before... Is this your first handgun?

Try two things.....
1. Put a little more finger on the trigger. Typically, your hitting left (assuming you are a right handed shooter) can come from the finger tip pushing the gun towards the support side when pulling the trigger. 2. Take the slack out of the tigger, slowly. You should be getting a surprise break (BANG) every time you shoot. You should not know when the firearm is going to discharge....a slow and steady squeeze until it goes BANG is what you are looking for. Try these and let us know if your shots migrate back towards the center of target. |

Bullets that travel up and down are due to your breathing when you squeeze the trigger. Bullets that travel left and right are due to your trigger squeeze. When you shoot, take a few breaths...pause and slowly squeeze with steady pressure......after the bang resume normal breathing. After you've done that for a while, a quick pause in breathing will seem perfectly natural. If none of that works, and other people shoot the same, then I would look into getting some sights.

Trust me its not the gun.Years ago I was shooting the same as you.I was always hitting the target to the left.Practice your grip and squeeze the trigger, dont pull it.Oh yea, keep your eyes open too that helps lol.

Thanks for all of the input.
I guess I need to try some different trigger techniques. I will learn to shoot this 45. I do love the way it feelsin my hand. Looked at a lot of others before buying such as Glock, Sig, HK, Kimber etc. They are all fine handguns but the XD just seemed to fit a little better. Thanks |

Low and to the left is very common for new shooters with all guns

XD sights
Its like the prior posts have said, I too have had the same problem as you
when I got my XD45. Low and to the left. Just use the pad of the finger on the trigger and practice dry firing. It really helps, I also shoot a colt 1911 and once you get used to the trigger your'e in business. Good luck and don't worry the XD45 shoots great. |
