XD-45 Tactical Compact like? not like?

So who has the tac compact and how do you like it? I would like its looks a lot more if they extended the dust cover out all the way like the rest of the XDs. It would look a lot less like the 1911.

I don't have one, but a buddy has the XD45 tactical and I have the XD45 compact service and we swapped the slides/frames to do some shooting to see what it was like. I liked it. I prefer the shorter grip of the compact but the extra length on the slide lowered the felt recoil and gave the longer sight radius.

I like... I like I compared the my Compact and Compact Tactical side-by-side at the range. They were both just as accurate up to about 10yds, but in my hands, the Compact Tactical was more accurate beyond 10yrds.

Add that to the fact that I can change the recoil spring weights on the Tactical anytime I want using standard 1911 springs as well as changing the guide rod. You're pretty much stuck with the factory spring/rod at the moment for the 4" Compact.

I ended up with Don's fat guide rod in the Tactical and a heavier recoil spring (20#). The Compact Tactical is a smooth shooter and the felt recoil is lessened somewhat with more weight up front using Don's guide rod along with the heaver recoil spring.

I now carry the Compact Tactical, I don't find it much harder to conceal the extra 1" of barrel (I carry IWB).

Since the 9mm Service has basically the same size frame as the 45C how does the 9mm Tactical differ from the 45 Compact Tacticle? It would seem they would be extremely similar.

I also have a Tac-9 and they are very very similar. The grip girth is slightly bigger on the XD45. Just picking them both up in the dark (with the full length mag in the XD45), it's hard to tell at first which one you have, except for the extra weight of the XD45 due to the slide and bullet weights.

I just picked up a compact tactical a few days ago. I have shot the 4 ince service, but liked the 5 inch barrel, and the option to shorten the grip lenth if carrying with just a shirt un-tucked, the grip doesn't print at all. I have only carryed 1911's for the last 22 years, this is my first non-1911 for off duty use. It carrys well, Im used to the 5 inch barrel in a IWB Milt Sparks Summer Special, though the slide is about a 1/4 thicker, it's not noticable. By getting the Compact tactical, I have carry options you don't have with the service pistols...........I highly recommend!

Love the TacCompact.

At night, when it comes out of the IWB I swap mags (practice that tactical reload) and slide on the light. In teh morning, reverse the process, in the holster and out the door.

Aside from the better balance, sight radius and ballistics... It just LOOKS better.

And, as Clint Smith likes to say, "God meant for a .45ACP to come from a 5" barrel."

So as near as anyone can tell, what is swappable and not swappable between the 45 Compact and the 45 Tacticle Compact? Mags, slides etc.
