Sight replacement

I have been checking around for some replacement sights for my XD.

As I search thru some of the threads on the subject here, I get the impression that there is something especially difficult or tedious about replacing the factory sights.

Is that correct?

What type of sight are you looking for?

I'm not really certain what type I'd like to get.
My time on the internet is kinda limited, so I'm not as far along in the research part as I'd like to be.
At 54 however, trust me, I think an up-grade is in order, my peepers ain't what they once wuzzz.....

Tom,

I just turned 65 so I know that you mean about the eyes.
I changed my sights several months ago to a fiberoptic sight from Dawson Precision. I really like them. I did front and adjustable rear. I woulden't have changed the rear but the XD45 was shooting a little left. I chose the green front rod, it seemed not to glare as much as the red. Let me say that the rods that came on my sights are.040 dia. They also give you a spare set. According to their directions I took out the front rod and changed it over to the green and also you hold a flame gently up to the rod and it will form a mushroom shape and then insert the rod, it gives you a larger sight. I now can shoot with my regular glasses.

SA customer service will take the old one off for you at no charge if you ship them the slide. Look at the SA web site for the custom shop, their pricing for sights (installed) is lower than you could buy the sights yourself and put them on. You're only limited by those that they sell.

XS Big dots list for $120, Cabelas is $110, SA is $95 installed.

And, if you ask me which they sell, I'll tell you to check the SA site!

I don't understand why I would have to send a pistol away just to get sights replaced?
They weld them in or what?

If pressed in, regardless of how tightly, perhaps the best way to remove them might be to "destroy" the sights, as opposed to risking damage to the slide trying to remove them intact?
It's not like I'd expect to have any use for the original sights afterwards......

Tom,

Multiple prior threads dealing with the topic of XD sight movement and replacement, interesting read. Some use liquid wrench, some put in the freezer, some put in a wood-padded vise and hit with a brass bar and heavy hammer. Like I said, SA's cheaper than doing it yourself. Good shooting.

I cut my front sights off with a dremel. Did it twice on two different XD's. Rear sights are easy.... its those D^&* front sights which are a pain in the ass.
