cheapest place for sights?
Hello. I have had my Dark Earth 45acp XD 4" for about 6 months now, and have put about 600 rounds through it.
Where is the cheapest place to buy these sights? http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Produ...70D-1162831763 I was told by a factory tech that it is really hard to replace the sights on these guns, and that I should probably send it in, because gunsmiths are having trouble replacing them. How true it that? |

http://www.pistolgear.com/
http://www.pistolgear.com/proddetail.php?prod=11TRB My gunsmith cussed the whole time he put Trijicons on my XD9 service. I'm wanting TFOs for my XD9sc and I will probably send the slide in to pistolgear. They are also a sponsor of this site.... |

I really don't want my gun to be gone for any amount of time, considering this is my only handgun, and I don't like being without it. How long would it take?

They don't install them. I thought they did. I think there is a seller here, or on glocktalk (sorry guys) that installs them for no charge. You just have to send your slide in to them. I think they have a week or two turn around. I just can't remember who it is. If I remember or find them, I'll let you know. Perhaps someone else can help us out. |

To be dead honest, if I could get the sights cheap, either online or at Gander Mtn. where I bought the gun, I would just find out how much the Gander Mtn. gunsmith can do it... or lock the slide in a vice at work, and get some brass punches off the Snap On truck and try to do it myself. It can't be that hard. Just put a couple shop rags around the slide, lock it in a vice, use some brass punches to knock the sights out, and beat the new ones in there. Whats the worst that can happen? I ruin my slide and have to buy a 5" model? lol

Ok I found it.
They cost $100 but they install for free and have a 48 hour turnaround. I'll be using them to put TFOs on my XD9sc.... http://www.shop.xd-hs2000.com/produc...3&productId=41 |

Definitely a great deal to get them installed and with a 48 hour turnaround.
In general, how accurate will the sights be with only a slide to sent in to measure from? Is it a case if the stock sights are good, then the replacement ones will have the same picture/accuracy? |

I sent two slides to Scott Springer and the guns came back more accurate than factory. And I'm not imagining it either. Both guns are hitting way more POA than before. I guess they use several techniques depending on the case by case situation. Witness marks, micrometer's, etc. I think that if you choose a qualified, experienced gunsmith you'll be fine. AJames or Scott Springer are certainly experienced and qualified. I'm delighted with the results.

I had James install my TFOs and it was longer then a 48 hour turnaround, but more importantly the slide came back in the same condition as I sent it to him in.
I do like my TFOs but the point of impact is an inch or two high at 15yds with my 45 service. |
