I loaded some swc's longer for a buddy with a 45 xd.I usually load mine at 1.235 for my 1911's,but they wouldn't work in my witness' or the xd.I just kept making them a little longer-ended up around 1.240-1.250.They look funny with that much shoulder sticking out,but they worked.

The problem that I had with mine was the feeding of the shouldered semi-wadcutter style bullet. Others here however, didn't experience this problem.
This 200gr. design is my favorite, and I ended up selling my XD. It is a great .45 platform though.

The only issue I ran into was self imposed. I messed up a re-assembly after a field strip. Be very careful to make sure the guide rod assembly is correctly centered and that you do not touch the barrel when reassembling the XD and you will be fine. The SA support people are great and helped me fix my little issue. I have put a few hundred rounds through my XD45c and love it and this coming from a die hard Sig guy.

Unfortunately I've only had a single box of 50 fmj's through my new 45XD Tactical........but I love it. First magazine shot 2-2/16" center to center group at 15 yds (just to set a baseline for improvement). Went back out with more time and shot the rest of the box into a 9" paper plate from 25 yds and a 6:00 hold. Again all were FMJ's - first ever box of 50!
Now on the LSWC point....I had some that were hand loads my dad did for his Series 70 1911.....and they are noticeably lower energy and the Series 70 loves them, obviously the recoil is lower as well.......however they did cause some fail to ejects on the XD.....needless to say, I'm sure the Tactical needs a full or near full energy load to cycle the slide.......even that said, I did have a few that did chamber up from the magazine ok, it was after a few rounds that I ran into the fail to ejects.....I suspect they were marginal (at bare minimum or sub-minimum) as far as pressures go to operate the slide fully rearward on the XD. Looking forward to getting a scale, and some components and start reloading and see what it will do with SWC's if my hunch is correct. Even thought of calling Springfield and seeing if they make a slightly lighter recoil spring or if that would adversely interfere with the timing of the slide going rearward.......still much to read and learn about. For now, break-in continues with factory FMJ's!!! Gosh it's an excellent piece! (the XD, haha) JIm B |
