I have a cqc serpa paddle, and wore it for a week on my hip while elk hunting (bow) for cougar and bear protection (45acp compact). I had a padded hip belt worn right above it on my hunting pack and it was very comfortable- I didn't know I had it on and I was physically active to say the least- up and down mountains.

I ground off the lowest belt 'clip' that catches the inside of your pants under the belt.

It took a little effort to stick into my pants each time, but that was not a problem.

It held the gun more stable than I think the belt holster alone would have done, and 100x better than the XD gear would have been.

BTW, I used camo Krylon paint and camo'd it too.

I switched to the paddle (which does hold the gun a bit closer I found out) and tried your method - Works great after a little practice.
Thanks!

Thanks for the video MGD! I goofed around with the paddle at first and felt that it was such a pain to get on and off I threw it in a drawer and decided to just use the belt method. However, I will try following your tutorial ... perhaps I'll become a paddle man!! Thanks again!

I was pretty leary of paddle holsters for quite a while after seeing one of my fellow detective fighting with a guy on a gas station floor a couple of years ago. When it was all over & my buddy stood up, his gun & holster was missing! During the scuffle & wrestling, the dang paddle holster came off & got kicked underneath a shelf!

Needless to say after that we all stopped wearing paddle holsters until Blackhawk came out with their version. We've practiced with it and tried to ripped it off each other's pants (that must've looked funny ), but it held like a champ & the small claws will literally dig into your pants & not let go!

Tomfoolery, you might want to put that release button back on...it's a wonderful device to keep the gun from being snatched out or falling out by itself. I love hearing the "click" sound it makes when I've reholstered & I know the gun is secured again.

Quick question for you guys, I'm considering buying a blackhawk serpa PADDLE ONLY (unswitchable to belt loop), they are on sale with free shipping today (Dec 12) only.

http://www.blackhawk.com/product1.asp?P=4135&C=C2004

It is for my XD 9 service bi-tone. Do you guys recommend this? or suggest getting the more expensive one that is switchable from belt to paddle? I don't carry or anything, just want something for the range and whatnot. Any input is appreciated, thinking about getting it tomorrow.

I do want something that fits snug against my body, does anyone know if one model (paddle only or detachable) fits closer to the body?

Does that model allow you to later add on the belt loops? Just curious... I thought about getting one for the XD, but I find the XD45c is hard to conceal for me. I have a CTAC and it's not too bad, but it's hard fitting the XD in my already tight pants
