Why get a stainless barrel?

I have a 4"45acp (black) and was wondering if anyone knows just why I should consider a stainless barrel other than it would look cool with a tungsten guide rod which I don't deny.

You wouldn't be concerned about rust with untreated bare steel?

I believe you can find your answer here
SS Barrel Vs. Chrome Barrel
While a stainless barrel may last longer and be more accurate if cared for properly, I do not think it will make much of a difference unless you are a heavy competition or target shooter. Therefore I believe you will find in many cases that people just polish their barrel strictly for the “bling factor”

I'm sure it may have more to do with the stainless composition but I always thought stainless was softer than true carbon steel. Am I wrong?

I like match barrels for the custom fit and associated accuracy. It just happens that all of the match barrels available for the XD are stainless.

You can harden stainless just like carbon steel, and you have the added benefits of the resistance to rust. The "bling" is just icing on the cake.

Stainless barrels are not more resistant to rust and don't last longer than do Melonite or Tenifer-treated carbon steel barrels. Most match barrels, however, are made of stainless. I'd never go with stainless just for the "bling" effect.
