Damged Guide Rod?

I just picked up a new XD 45. I took it home, cleaned and lubed it. I put about 150 rounds of 230 grain FMJ through it with out a problem. When I was cleaning it, I noticed that muzzle end of the guide rod looked to be damage. I called Springfield, and the person I talked to stated that this was "common and would not effect the performance of the pistol".

For crying out loud, its brand new, and now the end of the guide rod looks like it was drop/dent/chew on. What gives? Anyone else have this problem? Granted, the .45 ACP is a more punishing that a 9mm but only 150 rounds and the guide rod get chewed up?

The muzzle end is fine on mine. Not to insult you, but did you put it in backwards and cut it up or anything?

If you mean the exposed end of the guide rod, mine looks just like day one after several hundred rounds

I agree. A "new" gun should look "new".

I have 1200 rds. put through my XD45 Service since Dec. of this year and it looks like the day I bought it. As was stated, send the pictures to SA. In my humble opinion they need to send you a new rod guide assy.

Before contacting SA, wouldn't it make more sense to take it back to the shop you purchased it from? Perhaps it was dropped, etc.

That doesn't look like damage from shooting. That looks like a rod damaged during manufacturing (unlikely because SA Quality Control would have caught it) or as pointed out earlier, a rod damaged by droping the gun on a concrete floor. I suspect it was that way when you bought it, and you didn't notice it when you cleaned the gun.
