That's what I thought. I have the Canyon Creek tungsten rod for the 4" but the spring died. I keep hoping someone will come up with a new spring to fit.

A friend noticed

I mentioned the damaged guide rod to a buddy, and he said he noticed it before I even shot it, when he was looking at it.

I wounder if some doorknob at Sportsmans Warehouse dropped the thing before I bought it. Chances are it was either damaged at sportmans warehouse, or damaged when it was test fired by SA.

Either way, it needs to be fixed under warrenty. I would love to simply have a new guide rod end shipped, but chances are that they are going to want the whole darn pistol shipped back and I am SOL for several weeks.

Ill post my encounter with SA customer service later on Monday night.

I wonder if you could play the angle that you KNEW it was damaged prior to taking it to the range...but because you had the trip planned, you didn't want to cancel the trip just because of some chips to the end of the guide rod....and that you just thought "I'll just take it back next week and surely they'll get a replacement for me since someone quite obviously dropped it while at the store"?

I wouldn't think it would have left the SA factory like that.

That's crap. You pay for precision not scrap metal. To me,that screams warranty.

Update

I called SA today and explained the situation of the damaged guide rod, and that I would like this problem dealt with. I was issued a pick up number, and was told to just send in the guide rod for inspection and “possible replacement”. I don’t know about you guys, but I am not overly thrilled about having a non-functional pistol while SA figures the problem out. I asked if they could just ship out a replacement part. I was firmly told that SA does not issue replacement parts, and they would replace the whole guide rod assembly. Well again great, but that leaves with a $540 investment that is non-functional for several weeks.

I was able to reach a compromise. I was able to get a new guide rod for $14 bucks and will install that and send back that damaged one. It still pisses me off that I have to buy a new one, just to keep the damn gun working while I wait on these guys to replace the damaged one.

In a nut shell, could they not eat the cost of a $14 part and just send the damn thing out rather than pissing me off?

Anytime I have to replace something in my car, gun etc... It's a perfect excuse to upgrade.
