M&P's grip is great. I will not buy soley on how it breaks down. I think it is kind of cheesey that you have to use a tool. just my .02

You don't actually have to use the tool....as long as you check, double check, an triple check the chamber to make sure it is empty, you can just pull the trigger just like you do on the xd. The lever is just another mechanical device to use that may just stop an accidental discharge. either way works.

Here's my 22 cents. When I was in the market for a new carry pistol here is what I required, respectively:
RELIABLE, easy to conceal, accuracy & powerful round (not .380 or 9 or 40), lightweight and comfort & shootability. I was sick of hearing of all the problems that this gun and that gun had with them. So I said to myself "WHY don't I just put it all to rest and go with a Glock" as per reputation and a former Glock 23 owner. As time went on I sorta wanted something a little more versatile as far as the round is concerned. I live in the woods and there are bears around. I don't want to carry a .44mag or the like but I wanted something to help me fight off a bear in the even that a Mom and cubs came after me. WHICH they do in this area from time to time. SO anyway I keep that in mind. I was looking towards a beretta 92 because I was hung up on the fact that they shoot so smoothly and have a tight feel. UNLIKE the glock does! But that wouldn't be affective in a bear situ in 9mm. To make a long story short, I also wanted something that I didn't have to worry about ruing in the woods or while doing firewood etc... The Beretta is too nice to put through that stuff. The Glock could handle it though. I had narrowed it down to a glock 36. Finally I go to the gun shop to purchase one and I pick it up in my hands and then sure as daylight it's the same OLE GLOCK! Crappy trigger, looks like a block of wood, no grip, ugly old design, etc... Reminds me of a gun from the old show Lost in Space. That's when I tried out a M&P and an XD. Here's what I came up with. The M&P had a nicer grip a nicer trigger break than the XD but the site acquisition was not there for me and it seemed like it wasn't made nearly as nice. It just felt "cheap" to me. I felt it was a glorified Sigma. NOT that I wouldn't take a Sigma over a glock but I digress. Either way I didn't want to take the chance but kept it in mind. NOW I felt that the XD was right there for site acq. and the grip was just enough for me in the compact model PLUS I had the magazine full size grip if I wanted it. HEY it's a selling point. I concluded the trigger wasn't as nice as the smith, better than the GL but the gun was MADE really nicely and felt solid to me. I simply liked it! I wasn't fond of the S&W's ability to change back straps either. That's Walther's idea and when you switch them it sticks out alot. OK I go home and try to pull every article about it off of the internet and ask all kinds of questions (before I got in this group). The only thing I heard was the finish wasn't that durable. WELL neither is the Glock. I sold my Glock but Uncle had his about 6 months before mine and his is ALL shiny from the holster and believe me he doesn't use it that much at all! Before trying to make a trade and have my Cousin send me a Sig P220 that he never shoots ANYWAY I figured I better get moving and make decision. Needless to say I ended up with an XD 45acp in black. I wanted the OD model but I figured it was a fad and then when we raid Siberia we will all be wearing white surplus boots as opposed to desert camo! If you get my drift. NOW I have the best of all worlds. Here's my conclusion: Springfield Great Name and reputation .45 caliber great knockdown power. Great Looking gun/ quality construction Shoots GREAT/ easy to fire and controllable recoil RELIABLE Concealability Not too heavy Grip not as large as a glock SOUNDS good tooo! The glocks is louder than hell and harsh sounding. last but not the least, IT WAS CHEAPER than the M$P plus it came with all the accessories and a Lifetime Warranty!! That's why I am pleased with my XD. I love it! Perhaps my next purchase will be 1911 and or a Uberti cattlemen. I'd like to get into Cowboy Action Shooting. Thanx for Reading (if you did), MyFlippinXD |

Yeah, a Glock guy on PAFOA.org suggested that he's seen the loaded chamber indicator break and get snagged on clothing when drawn from a holster. He claimed the same thing about snagging and breaking about the striker status indicator as well. Just ridiculous. He also claimed the XD was prone to failures and parts breakage because the parts are weak and too thin. I love idiots.

I seriously doubt that the loaded chamber indicator would break without leaving a big hole there.... Or at least some fairly obvious indication. It's just too simple....
Besides you shouldn't trust it anyway.... The guy with the striker problem.... The mods WILL remove my comment so I won't make it I can see how the loaded chamber indicator could stick in the "up" position, though. Regards,
