I can get 3" groups easily with my .40 service model at 25yds. No mod's on my gun other than a DGR and grip tape. Nothing really hard about that.

We had a 14yo at a match a couple of months ago that was out with his grandfather. He was shooting a XD 9 service and he took 3rd in D class out of 9 shooters most which have been shooting IPSC for around a year or more. His first time ever in a competition and only the 3rd time in his life he had ever shot a gun, 2nd shooting a pistol, being a Noob has nothing to do with it. Some people have a natural talent to shoot a firearm well.

They have no pre-conceived notions of shooting and aren't driven by their ego.

My wife can put a ragged hole in a BG target with her 1911 clone.

+1 ego can be a huge detriment to shooting well.

Sorry, I thought you were saying the gun wouldn't do it. I generally shoot better offhand than from a bench myself.

The "man" element holds true in many things. As a rock climber (when I was young and more fit ) we used to train to use finesse rather than muscle to climb. Especially when climbing thin face. Women did this naturally. Men have a natural tendency to use their muscle to accomplish lots of things that don't require it. Women don't have the same muscular instinct men do so they rely more on balance and climbing "light".

I think this has some effect with handgun shooting as well. Finesse and a light touch goes a long way in endeavors that require precision sometimes.

I have shot most of my life. However I didn't become a "decent" shot until I got into biology and started working in a laboratory. Many of the muscle control techniques are the same.

Slow, graceful, constant deliberate motion. Accuracy is principle, speed comes with time and practice.

I know my wife can out shoot me with every rifle I have from the 10/22 to the AR and even the heavy 59/66. She don't like handguns much bigger than a 9mm, I want to get her a .38 special revolver.

I get about a 4"-4.5" group at 25yd with a XD.45 4"bbl. And thats not just three or four rounds per thirteen round mag. Thats every round. Granted Ive been shooting for the better part of ten years, this is the first .45 Ive ever shot and have only owned it for a month or so.
