It's just that the gun is new. Shoot 500 rounds through it and it will loosen up nicely. But even then, it's still 'tighter' than any other semi auto I have. There are a few threads on here @ how to polish the mag release to get that 'flawless' release...

I have felt your pain. When I bought my XD.45 4" with 13rd mags, it was near imposible to release a full mag. After shooting a few hundred rounds through it the issue has gone away.

I agree with the above posts. I had the same problem with my XD45 Service. To determine that it really is the Mag Springs try the following.

In a safe area where you can handle a loaded firearm SAFELY!!!
1. Lock the slide back on your XD with the mags out.
2. Insert the loaded magazine and fully seat it. Do NOT drop the slide!
3. Hit the Magazine Release button.

If the magazine freely falls with the slide locked back, it is the Magazine Spring.
If not, there is a problem with your mags or gun.
