"nose heavy' is good in a pistol unless you plan on doing cowboy tricks.
The shorter grip of the Compact forces your hand up into the beavertail where it belongs, the Service model ( of which I have two now ) wont do that unless you have BIG hands. Go to your gunshop and check out which one does that trick for you.

Was velocity mentioned here betwen the 4" and 5". I don't really know for sure, but I thought I read womewhere that the 5" will produce a bit more velocity than the 4" is this true?
I have a Tac .45 I cc it with no holster/no problems, Being 6'5" 280 with a big belly and bad knees helps. LOL |

I used to not like the 5". Now, I prefer it over the 4" because it is a softer shooter, a bit more accurate, better sight radius, more intimidating, and easier to swap spring. It also seems to be more "balanced" to me. Plus, if you decide to hang a light under it, the barrel is usually ahead of the light. I would imagine that because of that, there will be less residue collecting on the light when you fire the gun. Not to mention it looks better.

i love my tactical. if it were a main carry piece it would be difficult to sit with, but otherwise i conceal it fine. you would kinda get the best of both with the extended mag and the compact mag.
But i do have big hands and i cant really shoot a compact unless it has a grip extension.

I had a tactcal and a service. By had, I mean I ended up chopping the grip on the service. That gave me the best of both worlds. By swapping the slides I could have any configuration I wanted.
I then found a compact for $375 and scooped it up. I sold off the chopped one and that paid for the compact, but the end result is still the same. Now I am fully stock and covered by warranty for both. For me they both draw the same 5" vs 4", the shorter grip makes for easier concealment, and as said before the shorter grip causes me to grip higher into the web of the hand. The longer barrel only seems to make a difference in the amount of flip with shorter grip, but then only if you really pay attention for it. Accuracy, for me, is the same for each barrel length. |

I have both Compacts and think they're great. As for the 5" being nose heavy I felt it was just the opposite and when I sent it to Canyon Creek for a trigger job I had Rich put one of his tungsten inserts in the guide rod.

The rest of the gun world is probably laughing at Springfield about that compact/tactical. A short grip for concealment of a 5" barrel doesn't make sense. Try concealing a service pistol for a day or two. It's already on the border of difficult. I can't comfortably conceal one. Some say they can but I can't.

I have both compacts. I also CCW the 5 inch on a regular basis. I find it no harder to conceal than the inch. I think it shoots better and I get more velocity out of the round. It is muzzle heavy but that allows for much faster followups. In my opion its the best of both worlds.

I'm leaning toward buying the Compact 5", Does anyone have a clear pic of one?
