Yeah, because the words "five inch barrel" and "compact" are contradictory. I have no idea why SA even offers this combination.
Sure, Ill take the "compact" with the five inch barrel please.

I have the Tactical Compact in .45ACP with both the 10-rnd mag and 13-rnd mag with grip extension. Only feels nose-heavy with the 10-rnd mag in, probably just because I can only get 2 out of 3 fingers around the grip. I've never tried to conceal it so I can't tell you how good the Tactical does at that. Also I don't feel that comfortable with fast magazine changes (even the extended mag) since you have to move your hand out of the way quite a bit.
Sounds to me like you'd be more interested in the 4" Compact. |

I shot an IDPA practice with both (good to have friends). I found that I liked the 4" more when it came to doing all the scenarios. I had a chance to try a few different holsters and really "stretch" out the pistols. Some guys love the 5" some love the 4". After my IDPA test drive I bought the 4". It was easier to conceal and nicer to me when I did the sit down portion of the drills. And the funny thing is each guy that I borrowed an XD from loved their respective pistol choice. You could always buy a compact 4" and a full size 5" and have the ability to swap frames and slides

Well, the 5" digs into my hip badly while carrying IWB.

I haven't touched a 4' so keep that in mind.....
I am 5'8 140lbs.........so a pretty small guy. I carry an XD .45 Compact 5'.....no printing whatsoever when standing. When i bend down (say to look at the bottom shelf on a magazine rack), it becomes highly visible. I have a Crossbreed SOB holster. I can carry it with shorts and a T shirt and there's no printing. I also love shooting it, and contrary to most, like the look of the 5' inch much more than the 4. Only problem with the 5 is getting a threaded barrell for a can........haven't been able to find any yet. Anyway, my 5 holds a very nice group up to about 20 yards or so. I don't see myself getting into a situation that calls for a longer shot, if it ever does, i'm confident i could do what i need to be done.

The compact feels exactly like the normal grip if you use magazines with the grip extender on them... BUT it's much harder to get the magazine to fall in a fast mag change situation because you also must release your grip some and lift a couple of fingers to clear the mag extension.
But for CCW, the short grip is great. For range type competition, the 5" shoots itself, my .45ACP Tactical is amazing and everyone who shoots it says "I WANT ONE!!!".
