XD45 quick service
I sent my XD45 compact back to SA last Tuesday for warranty service. I also had new sights installed. The pistol is back in my possession in less than a week. Pretty quick turnaround. I've done a bunch of searching and reading here and think I better appreciate the importance of keeping the striker housing free of gunk and debris. I'm ordering spare retaining pins a set of roll pin punches so I can keep on top of this myself. Now it's time to do some shooting. SA customer service is impressive.

Their factory is only 20 miles from my home and I can tell you, they're as proud of their service department as they are of their products.

I have only had one experience with SA warranty service ( a 1911) and I was extremely pleased with the way they handled things.

What kind of sights did you have installed?

Heinie slant pro tritium. Shot a box of ball ammo with them yesterday and was pleased to find that no further adjustment was needed.

Can I ask what they charged you- either to install your sights or for the sights plus installation.
I sent SA an email asking what they'd charge just to remove the factory sights, they said no charge, just ship it back. I'm waiting to hear if I can ship only the slide, and not go through an FFL nor pay for overnight shipping. |

$95 sights and installation...choice of at least 3 maybe 4 different sights at that price...go to the SA website, navigate to the custom shop and select the XD services page. It's adobe acrobat file listing all their services and prices.

Thats a great deal for $95. The XS Tritium Big Dots are $109 at Cabelas (plus shipping), plus the gunsmithing cost to remove the factory sights and install the XS sights. Even if I put my XD in a vise and whack at it with a sledge hammer, it's cheaper to ship the slide to SA and have the pro's at the factory do it. SA charges $8.95 s/h, add my shipping, it's less than $115 total.
I see a Christmas present in my future...... I'm squandering all discretionary funds on the upcoming waterfowl season opening 10/20. "I see dead ducks". |
