I'm hearing ya.
For the price of these conversions you can buy a dedicated 22, but some people like them, so I won't knock it.

I can see it on some firearm's with do-dad's and levers that need to be flipped just to get the thing to fire, as you can practice all that stuff, but an XD,
Grab it!
Point It!
Fire!

I have thought of a conversion, but to me it would be a "look what I've got" kind of item.

Conversions

Use of a 22 cal conversion allows inexpensive shooting for the plinker ..a bit of research will inform the reader that while many conversions are designed for cheap shooting....some are designed to copy the actual feel of firing the larger calibre they are replacing././
Most common of these are the ...split chamber 22 units for the Colt 1911 .45 .... If you have used one of these you get the feel of a 45 and still mark the target where you have aimed. 1000 rounds of 22 later your wallet knows why you got the conversion. 10,000 rounds later you buy an extra few guns...and start looking for more conversion units...... Do not confuse a split chamber conversion unit with a simple conversion to a cheaper calibre....each has a purpose in shooting/ training

i understand trigger sqeeze and all of that.. its not a 45.. if you want to be great with your 45.. you shoot your 45

How

The split chamber uses the energy from the 22 to "slap" it's double chamber open and slide back with the "felt" recoil of a 45 round. This "split breech" conversion was designed as a training device before WW2 and was used as such by many the Military and many Police and Civilian organizations....after (if) you have a chance to use one you will see how well it works.

and Who

The "Service Model Ace" was designed by David Marshal "Carbine" Williams. The Floating Chamber acts like a piston to boost the recoil energy of the 22 round. Good article about it by Rick Brendenam at; "The Sight" M 1911-A1.... Unit is not like modern 22 conversions designed for plinking.

It will be cheaper to shoot which means you will be shooting more which means you will be getting your XD the dirtiest its ever been in its life.

I think id rather buy a $200-$300 .22 plinker
