Never load a brand of ammo into your mag for "real" that you haven't shot thru the gun beforehand. Hand cycling won't cut it as the action is totally different than when cycling while shooting. It only has to be a few rounds out of the box.

+100

You must actually shoot what you intend to shoot. The more the better... but you have to shoot some of it to know that and how it shoots.

I have heard that the bullets don't expand as well as some other brands. I carry Gold-Dot myself.

I would Recommend 230 Gr. Hardball +P which would likely overpenetrate
a Human target, but the Question is would it be enough to stop a Bear?

My Opinion is it very well may not, I think even a 3030 Rifle round may not be potent enough to stop a bear, and its a lot more powerful that the 45 Pistol.

Think about it.

Just getting back to update this thread...

I ran 100 rnds of hornady 230g TAPs through my 45 service this weekend and had at least one fail-to-feed per mag. The hollowpoint was getting hung up on the feedramp. A quick manual rack of the slide pushed it back into the chamber, but I am definitely not trusting this ammo for personal defense. During the same range trip I also put 100 rnds of winchester WB JHPs through the pistol without a single failure of any kind. When comparing the two bullets, the TAPs have no curve to the nose of the bullet, with a very large opening for the hollowpoint, while the WWB JHPs have a nice curved transition between the HP, nose and case.

Here are the TAPs:

and the WWB:

So, I'd recommend staying away from the hornady stuff, or at least running a TON of ammo through your weapon to make sure it feeds reliably 100%.

The only other JHPs I've run through the gun were federal hydra shoks and they also fed flawlessly. This is the first failure of any kind I've had since purchasing the gun, so I don't think it's a problem with the gun itself. My gun just doesn't like the TAPs I guess.

Can anyone recommend a good JHP personal defense ammo that has a rounded nose like the winchesters (aside from the hydra shoks)? I'd like to try gold dots and winchester SXTs but everyone seems to be out of them.

Are you sure it's not hanging on the lip of the casing? It looks pretty pronounced to me.
