XD45 quit firing
My XD45 compact stopped firing halfway through a magazine. I've used only Federal ammo and the pistol has less than 250 rounds through it. The striker retaining pin is still in place but the striker will not move freely. Something is preventing its free travel. Any ideas?

Throw some gunscrubber or non-chlorinated brake cleaner in their around the striker. I am betting some oily gunk got in their and jammed 'er up. It could also be brass shavings if your ejector has a sharp edge to it.

Check the firing pin safety.

The striker retaining spring will have a bit of tension from the spring, and the striker safety will block the striker if it's not depressed. Does the gun have a trigger job, or after market sear, and springs?

Take it by the gunshop you bought it at. They may be able to tell you something.

The pistol goes into battery but does not fire. The striker is bound up by something(?). The retaining pin is in position. I called Springfield Armory and left a message for Megan yesterday but got no reply so I called again today and talked to Vicky. She suggested blowing out the striker channel with compressed air. I did that with no change in the situation. I haven't got the right size punch so i haven't completely disassembled the slide. I guess I'll have to send the pistol back to SA. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. For a little history, I'll add that I first bought a service model 45 and put about 500 rounds through it and was so impressed that I evaluated my needs and traded it for a 45 compact and a tactical model. Now I've lost some confidence in the XD. Maybe this is premature so I'll wait until I find out what is wrong before abandoning the XD for a Sig, HK or dare I say it, a Glock.

You wouldn't need a "special punch" to disassemble a Glock.

Yeah well, a GLOCK is like a potato. It's big, dumb, and easy to use. But it tastes bland and looks ugly.
Anyway, XD's are more fun. I wouldn't just discount the XD firearm because yours is having a problem, but whatever. I hope you get it worked out!

Take the gun to a local gunsmith and he will very quickly find out what is wrong. Then if it is a part failure you can send it back to SA and they will make it right. If it is gunk in the inner works, the gunsmith can clean it and you can discuss with him what kind of ammo you are shooting and what kind of stuff you are using to clean the gun. This isn't all that big of a deal. If it was happening to many people or to the same person over and over, that would be different. My $.02
