Lasermax Guiderod Laser

So far my favorite accessory for my XD45c is the Lasermax internal laser. What an ingenious idea! I was concerned about how "close" it would be since it's not adjustable. I train for center of mass so I figured it'd be plenty close enough to get 'er done regardless. To my amazement it is nutz-on! The blinking red dot sits dead even with the top-center of the front site at 30 feet. Since it is SO close to the bore-axis it takes a lot more range than I'll ever shoot at to notice it's vertical error. I did have to scrape a little flashing off of the edges of the battery cap to make the weapon easier to re-assemble and I think the battery cap is going to wear out rapidly. When you buy new batteries from Lasermax they come with a replacement cap so I guess it really doesn't matter how long it lasts. Talk about a head-turner at the range! Somebody sees me shooting with no "junk" hanging under the barrel then mid-clip I turn the laser on. When I set it down to reload my mags someone *always* asks about it. With the NRA member rebate it was about $220 shipped.

YES they are really nice!! I didn't know that they blink though? I am holding out for a Crimson Trace grip laser. I hope its a good choice...

Pulsed Lasers

Lasermax guiderod lasers are advertised as "pulsed". Basically, the dot blinks rapidly. It is WAY quicker to find the dot, especially when following a moving target or in dappled light conditions in the woods. I wondered if I'd like it as much as a solid-on but actually prefer it. Now I'm wishing there were more pulsed lasers on the market for my other weapons. There are a few and I'm sure others will follow suit if people like the feature as much as I do. I do like the Lasergrips in some applications, like 1911s. I've yet to like the feel of one on a poly gun. They tend to make the grip "lumpy" and a little awkward feeling, at least to me. Where they replace the existing screw-on grips they would be my first choice.... that is if they start offering them pulsed!

I'm still waiting on the EFK barrel I ordered late Sept/early Oct. 2007... so sorry for the lack of update about how the XD Service .45 performs suppressed. If it's not in my hands by Feb. 21st I'll have to cancel the order and go with another company.

I'll just "second" the LaserMax, it made my XD the self-defense weapon I wanted it to be! And I paid full price from LaserMax as I got one of the first 20 made!

Cheers! M2

Without a doubt, Ameriglo Ghost Ring sights. I've had em for 6 mths now and rapid accurate target acquisition. Also for those with presbyiopia (reading glasses), it's the only way to keep eyes on the target with accurate alignment...

So I called EFK back today.

First I was told that the barrels came in and were ready to go off to be threaded so she expected those to be back from threading in another 30 days. Now, twenty-nine days ago when we spoke she told me to expect 30 days tops.

I then mentioned that when last we spoke she told me that she would cut down an XD Tactical that she had on hand and thread that to speed up my order. She said something like she remembered there being a cut down threaded barrel for me and I began to hear noises like papers being shuffled. I then politely explained that I was just calling to see if the order would be in my hands tomorrow, as promised, and if not to cancel my order. I was not told that a cut down XD Tactical .45 barrel threaded to .578x28 was found from the searching so I cannot speculate on its existence.

She was very polite and apologized for not being able to provide the barrel by the time I needed it. However, no explanations for the various 'mistakes' were given. I, in turn, told her not to worry about it because in things slip through the cracks now and then and I didn't want to take up more of their time either. I expressed concern that my order be removed from the system as it failed to show up in the system a few times to begin with. She told me she had my order in hand and promised to shred it immediately. If they show up on my credit card bill I will post another follow up.

Here is a summary of my experience with EFK Firedragon:
1) Order for threaded barrel placed late Sept/early Oct 2007
2) My bank called me a month later informing me my credit card had been compromised (NO connection with EFK implied here) and so I called EFK to switch the card on the order. During this conversation I was told "I think we're making those right now" when I asked about the status.
3) About two months in I sent an email inquiry, no response.
4) Two and a half months in another email inquiry sent through another email service provider, no response.
5) Three months in I got Franky on the phone and learned my order had been 'received' but never put in the 'to be filled' pile.
6) Three months and about 1 1/2 weeks in I got a voice mail saying EFK needed more information on my order. Somehow they didn't have my address, so I provided it to them. I asked if this meant my order was ready to ship and was told, no, I should expect another 30 days tops.
7) Today, 29 days later, I made the above call and was told to expect another 30 days. I canceled my order.

This means if we are generous and say my order was placed in October that no action was taken on my order for at least three months.

Again, I must say that the folks at EFK have been nothing but polite to me. Unfortunately, they have been nothing but polite to me. This is an absolute failure to fill my order and I saw no attempt to make it right. I will not say I was lied to but the stories I was told changed frequently and often did not match. Obviously, I will not be reviewing their product as it was never delivered and I will NOT do business with EFK Firedragon in the future. I will be ordering from Pistol Gear instead.

This is one man's experience, YMMV.
