I carry the 45 acp because that is the round the 1911 was designed around and tends to work the best with. I also like the fact that bullets in 45 acp open to large diameters and have good penetration. Do I think its the hammer of thor no. But I do think it has a small edge over the other service rounds in terminal performance.

Like I said, ballistic lala land. If you really think that one hit with a 45 anywhere in the body is going to stop a bad guy "in his tracks", you need to do some research on anatomy and ballistics. Start with Martin Fackler and go from there.

I don't list my guns - I know glocks, FALs, and AKs but I'm not sure my ability to fill a gunsafe with guns make me an expert on anything.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.

Excellent post. Some people believe in the tooth fair, the easter bunny and one shot stops. None of them exist. The 45 is a fine service round but it is not a death ray. In fact it has a long record of failures to stop just like all the service pistol rounds. Pistols generally suck at stopping determined aggressors. What stops fights is shot placement and CNS hits.

LOL i as i was reading that i almost laughed out loud! i was thinking man 2 shots to the arm = DEAD! or missing arm! haha

i agree seriously no defensive pistol round has a track record like that NONE. 1st of all there isnt enough data out there as to what pistol is the best defensive round there are two many factors that come into play.
2nd i dont care what you are shooting shot placement is key. you could rock someone with a 00 buck twice and they could live if you shot them in the legs!

i will say best home defense round 00 buck. best CW round would be what you can shoot accurately and comfortably. like it was said 100 times before SHOT PLACEMENT is key

This is so true and why one must constantly train. Shooting good under pressure is an erodable skill. Besides, ammo is cheap, shoot until the threat stops.

LAR Grizzly 45winchester Magnum, Starline brass, VV N110 powder. Tests in balistics gel show reliable expansion to .96/.97 Dia with 95% weight retension. I have taken whitetail at a measured 142 yards standing iron sight shot. At 100 yards from a bench 2.5" 5 shot groups are normal.
Next time I test a batch I will have someone video it.

You sir, are NUTS.

I can just imagine his BG moving at the last second to dodge the shot, only to scream in pain from the terrible burning sensation he just got from the FREAKING large ball of fire!!!

First off, I'm not trying to start any argument. Here is my second-hand experience with the .45 ACP (230 grain Fed. HydraShok):

About 2.5 years ago I am heading into work and check my cell voice mail. The only message was from one of my guys calling out because he was in the hospital. His cousin shot him.

Long story short, he and said cousin were in the same room. Cousin was messing with his new Taurus .45. Cous is sitting about 5 feet away when he "accidently" pops a round off. The round goes through the lower part of my guys leg (about 4" or so above the ankle) exits and skips off the top of his opposing foot (legs were crossed at the ankles).

After walking himself downstairs for the EMT guys (narrow staircase and a somewhat large dude) he makes it to the ER via ambulance. A good amount of blood.
The doctors are amazed as he is able to perform all the "can yous" they ask of him. No muscle damage. No nerve damage. No bone damage. Round went clean through. He was about as lucky as you can get for being shot with a .45 ACP.

I'll see if I can get him to send me a pic of the .45 HS. Almost 100% reloadable. Even after lodging itself into a door frame.
