its my way of saying.. a 9 is to weak

but if you got that shot off with a 9 to the head.. you could of dont the same with a 45.. and at that point it doesnt matter.. but if you got off a quick shot.. and only hit the arm or something ... id rather have it hit with a 45.. than a 9

Two words: combat proven. The 1911 won WWII!

Plus I hate buying different types of ammo...

Cheers! M2

Saying that a flesh wound in the leg from a .45 has more stopping power than a sucking chest wound from a 9mm is an inconsistency IMHO.
Who said I couldn't hit the chest with my .45? IF I MISSED and it hits elsewhere the bg will lose all desire to continue the struggle. If he continues to advance the second round will stop him permanently. If you miss with your 9mm the bg will have a hole in him and probably still be coming.

Read up on the drugged up attackers in the Phillippines and how ineffective the small round the soldiers used was. It was the reason the Army went back to the .45, in fact they are considering going back to the .45 because the 9mm...well sucks at killing Hadji's.

Not necessarily true.

Some folks naturally shoot some calibers better than others. I carry a .45 because my Colt 1911 is as reliable as any gun I own and I shoot it better than any of the others that are convenient to carry. I like having a nice big caliber...but if I shot my 9mm better, you can bet I'd carry it instead. Although sometimes I carry my S&W 637, and in the winter months I carry my 686 in a shoulder holster..watch out those days...I cock the hammer back on that baby and I can hit ANYTHING (or at least I think I can ).

If caliber size were the ONLY consideration I'd be toting around a S&W .500 magnum with the max loaded JHPs. Forget *hit in the arm*...say goodbye appendage. Unfortunately it's not.

When I went through the caliber debate initially this is the advice that was given to me by an old family friend that helped teach me to shoot handguns.

Pick the biggest caliber you WILL carry and CAN shoot effectively. A .45 in the dresser at home doesn't do you any good when you're out on the street, and in the same way that you can't miss fast enough to win, you can't miss with a big enough bullet to win.

Just my .02 cents.

I'm not saying you couldn't, but some people can't.

There's a reason there are LOTS of calibers out there. To each his own.

For the record I carry a .45 most of the time too, but I recognize it's not for everyone.

Smaller women, the elderly, and candy-assed sissy boys often can't handle it effectively enough to be accurate.

I carry a .45 ACP because I'm afraid of robinsre calling me a candy-assed sissy boy.

Exactly, I wasn't trying to pick a fight with you...my opinion...your opinion. I have huge hands and arms, the .45 just feels and shoots right. The other calibers feel like toys to me
