It can't be very competitive in Open class because of capacity problems... the mags are too narrow to compete with the 2011's... thats why you don't see any xds in open class... Yeah you can mount a dot on it, and put a big mouth on it, and try spring tuning it, but as far as "competitive" you'll just be handicapped...

That leaves the recoil issue of a 45 vs a girly 40 or mangina 9,, no way around the recoil of a mans calibre so I deal with it The whole reason Im in open is cause I want to shoot a Saiga 12 for shotgun in 3 gun,, that leaves me open to anything for pistol so this is what I choose. Its all for fun since Im not contending for anything but a good time at a match. The pistol side for 3 gun is just for kicks and my weakest part of the match. Hell I just came back from shooting the KY State Multigun and the XD with standard sights in Limited and I shot it better than I ever have with a 1911. At some point it seems that we do things at our own pace and for our own reasons, for our own goals. Wether it be to win or have a good time. |

ColoXD: I guess that point of reference is important. I've never thought of my XD .45 Tac as a hard recoiling weapon; always seemed mild to me. After shooting my Firestar .40 cal, shooting the .45 XD is downright soft. -steve

I guess I'm like a lot of you guys. I've always been comfortable with the recoil of any 45. Don't even notice it most of the time. Actually I find 9mm a little more "snappy" in that department over the nice smooth 45's.
Don't quote me on that, though. Things might change once I start getting into the competition thing with my XD45 this fall. Now where'd them BIG BUBBA loads for my 357 go????

You could always take it back and get a 9mm. But that just goes against God. Just go shoot. I taught a 10 year old to shoot my .45 xD and he can put all 13 on the target, in the rings. Go shoot a .357 a few times with mag rounds, no .38 Special +P crap then go back to your xD. You can also try adjusting your grip. The springerprecision videos ae a great tool and then you get to go try it !

Well glad everyone figured by my post I was a little sissy and the kick was too much. Which is wrong I can shoot my .45 fine just was wondering what was available out there to make it kick even less. But thanks to those who gave me some info.

I have never had any recoil from my XD45 service weapon, I thought recoil is what happened when you squeezed off a round from a .44 mag with a 4 inch barrel.

As one user mentioned.... "practice, practice, practice". Once you shoot it a lot, then you won't notice as much as in the beginning, that's all we meant by it. We're all in the same boat. We all had to learn to get the feel of the 45 (and other calibers) at one point in our shooting lives.

Yeah... dont take it personally, if you haven't shot a .45 alot it takes some gettin used to i guess, especially if your grips not on par...
