Got to finally shoot my XD 45, WOW! - XDTalk Forums - Your HS2000/SA-XD Information Source!

A friend with a small farm let me do some target practice today, the XD 45 performed flawlessly with Blazer 230 FMJ's. It did shoot a little to the left (IIRC, if I move the rear sight to the right, that should move the POI to the right?). I am impressed with the accuracy and look forward to finding some local IDPA matches to shoot in.

I might even do a trigger job to shorten the pull and lighten it a little.

Also, I can go to the farm anytime I like and practice, also two of his neighbors dogs has killed two of their goats and goat dog, the neighbor refused to put his dogs down, but told my friend to shoot them if they come on his property. My friend also told me to shot the dogs If I was out there and saw them. What is bad about the dog owner is that he has a 3 year old daughter and still refuses to put the dogs down, I don't mind helping out if I can.

Anyway I am tickled pink with my XD 45. I have a XD 9 Sub-Compact on order and have no doubts that I will like it equally.

dont move your sights just yet! Almost everyone on here has had the problem of shooting to the left, its a common thing. Concentrate on your trigger pull, because with the XD trigger, and Glock, and M&P, people tend to push the gun to the left while squeezing the trigger. If after awhile it hasnt improved, then drift your sights. Glad to hear your loving your XD, it'll treat you well for thousands of rounds to come!

I'll practice some more then, I think I noticed the "push tendency" when I dry fired it a few times. I'll work on better trigger control. Thanks for the advice.

some of the best advise on trigger pull i got was "squeze the trigger dont pull it" and if you think this when your shooting it will help you at least it did me
also have a friend load some snap caps in while you are shooting and see if you flinch

Another important point is the trigger finger should be on the middle of the pad not back near the first knuckle. This will help you in not pushing the trigger left.

Same thing with shooting left for me. Search "left" on XDTalk and you'll find multiple threads about it, grip position for your hands, etc. Funny, I stopped at the gun shop yesterday and a woman (with her little girl) was buying a rifle to shoot dogs who were killing her goats. Here in California!

The best advise I've heard on shooting left is to stop calling it PULL or SQUEEZE the trigger and start calling it PRESS the trigger. Somehow this made mental sense to me and I can imagine pressing the trigger straight back.

I just ran another 50 rounds through it. It performed flawlessly. This time I was using Monarchs, they did't seem as accurate as the Blazers (aluminum case). I am going to try a box of Blazer brass next. I am starting to save my brass and might give reloading a try.

I've ordered a XD 9MM SC and can't wait, I might get a 9MM Tactical next. These are just too much fun.

Good advice. Treat the trigger like a button and press it firmly and quickly straight back when the sights align. How ever quickly the sights can re-align is how ever fast you should be shooting. Unless you're taking your time, but usually when I'm on the range I try to maintain a speed that is fast but won't get me in trouble.

After a hundered rounds I have finally got my trigger finger under control. I think the first rounds that were hitting to the left was me.

I am pretty sure I will have a trigger job done to reduce pull length, other than that the gun is great.
